EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst specializing in Asbestos analysis for its Orlando, FL laboratory location. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees. Experienced analysts are welcomed to apply.
Responsibilities:
Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy, PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy) and all ancillary quality control procedures
Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
Receive environmental samples and log-in/data entry Chain of custodies into LIMS system.
Record data in a specified manner
Review paperwork for incoming samples to ensure completeness and correctness
Make sure all samples are placed into proper storage for analysis
Generate analytical reports and enter data produced by analysts into the LIMS system for production of final reports to customer
Handle inventory and record keeping
Assist with customer service client questions via phone and email and in person
Clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, faxing, scanning
General laboratory housekeeping including sweeping, wiping down surfaces, cleaning incubators, waste disposal
Cross training in other lab areas as needed
Requirements:
Minimum requirement High School Diploma or equivalent
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in a Life Science: Geology, Microbiology, Biology, Environmental Science, and/or Chemistry a plus
Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training a plus
Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
One to two years of asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM experience is a plus, but not required
Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
Work independently and with a team
Work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignments
Good communication, computer, typing, and organizational skills
Available Shift:
Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Training to start will be Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
