SUMMARY:
Conducts experiments under supervision and following established policies and procedures. Operates and monitors equipment such as collecting and analyzing data using statistical methodology. Reviews literature in the field for informational purposes or to gather data.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in the design of experimental protocols to achieve the scientific objectives of the research project. They must have an in-depth knowledge of genetics epigenetics and ELISA assays. They must perform molecular biology techniques confidently. They must also follow protocols for receipt and logging of biological samples from multiple research groups.
Comply with laboratory procedures policies and safety regulations.
Maintain and follow laboratory standard operating procedures.
Prepare samples for molecular biomarker testing.
Perform DNA and or RNA extraction quantification and normalization using various techniques.
Perform assays using qPCR DNA methylation protocols and ELISA.
Clean and sterilize and or autoclave equipment and work area. Transfer biohazard waste to the waste storage room. Defrost freezers.
Perform basic administrative tasks.
Record receipt of samples on computer and freeze the samples as required.
Obtain and record various clinical samples including blood saliva and urine and freeze until testing.
Prepare documents necessary for IRB submissions.
Participates in the interpretation of the results of experiences through conferences with supervisor and other researchers to review data compared to hypothesis and research methodology in instances of inexplicable data. They must train and or supervise students other employees and collaborators both within and outside the lab.
Reviews all literature pertaining to research being conducted in the scientific area of interest. Individual should be prepared to attend users� meetings to stay informed on new technologies and advancements in the field.
May assist in writing presentations and papers for publications based on research performed.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Bachelor�s degree in Medical Technology Biology or relevant field.
Good understanding of laboratory information systems and automated laboratory equipment.
MS office operating skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Performs independently with the department�s policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor whenclarification of the departmental policies and procedures is required.
