You will take pride in performing customer service tasks at a high level, execute daily scheduled tasks, take initiative within the scope of the role, and strive to improve work processes based on laboratory and client needs. You will understand the importance of daily tasks performed and the impact they have on patients and providers, contributing to lifesaving diagnostic services. Responsibilities + Understand and perform to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements. + Support leadership during audits as needed. + Ship, receive, and track packages and specimens while maintaining the integrity of samples. + Receive, classify, and process specimens accurately and expediently. + Inspect specimens and paperwork for accuracy and acceptability. + Maintain sample identity and ensure samples are handled and stored at appropriate temperatures. + Accurately perform data entry functions using appropriate systems. + Proofread own work for content, spelling, accuracy, and document format. + Prepare samples for laboratory testing as needed. + Perform reagent preparation as needed. + Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance and calibration on equipment. + Identify and document sample issues or discrepancies and work with clients to resolve them. + Answer telephone calls and respond to email requests professionally and courteously. + Research and resolve issues promptly with follow-up to customers. + Use written and verbal communication skills to provide exemplary customer service to internal and external customers. + Maintain organization of departmental records. + Support the maintenance of reagent and supply inventory. + Work weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled. + Train others on job tasks as assigned. + Maintain all applicable competencies and sufficient continuing education credits. + Perform duties in accordance with laboratory policy. + Comply with all standard operating policies and procedures. Essential Skills + Experience in laboratory, sample preparation, specimen processing, and sample handling. + High School diploma with 6+ months of production or healthcare experience OR Associate's degree in life science/science adjacent with retail/serving/fast-paced experience OR Bachelor's degree in science adjacent field. + Phlebotomy certification (nice to have). + Specimen collection and labeling experience. + Accessioning and packaging skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in phlebotomy, processing, or healthcare is a plus. Work Environment This position operates Monday to Thursday from 8pm to 6:30am with rotating holidays. The lab is divided into three areas: a reference lab, HLA (DNA testing), and testing labs. This role is within the testing lab, servicing not only the Indiana Blood Center but also the Blood Center of Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. The dress code includes scrubs or business casual attire with long pants and comfortable, clean, closed-toe shoes. Overtime is not likely but additional hours are available if desired. Equipment used includes centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, and microscopes. INTERESTED IN THIS ROLE?
