Laboratory Care Technician
Overview Fairview Health Services is looking for a Laboratory Care Technician for the Acute Care Laboratory at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This is a part-time position, 64 hours per 2 week pay period and every other weekend rotation. This position will include primarily day shifts with occasional evening shifts. Day shifts are either 5 am to 1:30 pm or 7 am to 3:30 pm. This person will be responsible for collection of blood specimen in the outpatient setting. Our laboratory provides quality testing in the areas of clinical hematology, chemistry, blood gas, coagulation, urinalysis, transfusion medicine, and blood collection and processing. Responsibilities Job Description The Clinical LCT plays a vital role in the operation of the outpatient lab as well as specimen receiving and processing. They facilitate the flow of information between the Lab and the other health care units within the hospital as well as admitting, physicians, clinics, homecare agencies, reference labs, patients and their families. Performs functions associated with accurately transcribing physician orders, receiving & ordering laboratory tests into the LIS computer system In a timely manner. Effectively and accurately communicates lab results to physicians, hospital staff, clinics and patients. Is responsible for the coordination and flow of outpatient laboratory services and phlebotomy. Registers patients, verifies patient demographics. Processes and triages laboratory specimens. Supports physicians, PCUs, homecare, clinics, patients/families, and employees by responding to triaging when necessary all incoming phone calls. Responds to inquiries about lab processes. Greets and assists patients/families, healthcare workers and provides excellent customer service. Multi tasks and exercises independent thinking and skills. Participates actively in department problem solving. Ensures HIPAA and ABN policies and procedures are met. Maintains office supplies and equipment. Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required At least 18 years of age Education Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program OR- Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience OR- Enrollment in MLT or MLS program, including completion of a phlebotomy course. Experience Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting Preferred Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity.
