LABORATORY CLINICAL SPECIALIST
**Job Type:** Regular **Time Type:** Full time **Work Shift:** Day (United States of America) **FLSA Status:** Non-Exempt **When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.** LABORATORY CLINICAL SPECIALIST **Job Description:** **Essential Duties and Responsibilities:** + Responsible for organizing, performing and assigning laboratory procedures to technicians / technologists, and maintaining general efficiency in assigned areas; through monitors and staff evaluations. These responsibilities extend to all areas of the laboratory in the absence of the Administrative Laboratory Director and / or Clinical Manager or Anatomic Pathology Manager. + Responsible for ensuring total compliance with all signed approved SOP’s and technical procedures for oneself and all staff within the lab section. Adheres to all safety policies and procedures and monitors compliance. + Tests, assesses, develops, verifies and implements new procedures according to current regulatory standards and based on the needs of the laboratory. Participates in the determination of equipment and personnel needs in assigned areas. + Maintains own technical competency following the approved procedure. Ensures compliance with current regulatory policies relating to staff competency within lab section. + Evaluates equipment operation and preventative maintenance according to manufacturer’s recommendations and current regulatory standards. Reviews maintenance logs. Initiates corrective action, and maintains documentation of activities. + Responsible for reviewing and evaluating daily, weekly, monthly and other periodic Quality Control reports. Initiates and documents corrective action. Troubleshoots out-of- control procedures with technicians / technologists in assigned technical areas on a daily basis. . Initiates corrective action, with documentation. Responsible for the overall quality control program in assigned technical area according to current regulatory standards and approved procedures. + Prepares and assists in the CAP accreditation process, and ensures compliance with applicable state and other federal regulations that pertain to laboratory testing. + Creates and updates inventory forms / records for the lab section as needed. Responsible for maintaining inventory levels of reagents, supplies and quality control products in assigned area. Manages stock rotation and follows established procedures relating to verification of reagents and new lots of kits. + Maintains standard operating procedures: Responsible for development of new technical procedures and updating current procedures as approved changes are implemented. Responsible for following approved document control policies in accordance with current regulatory standards. + Oversees, participates and complies with the approved laboratory Proficiency testing program. Ensures distribution of samples and rotation to all technicians / technologists within their lab section. + Supervises and trains current technicians / technologists, new employees and students. Establishes training requirements and documents training and competencies based on current regulation standards and approved policies. + Maintains LIS computer skills and must be capable in all routines, including troubleshooting. + Checks LIS reports, including QC, outstanding and exception reports and ensures that questionable results are verified. + Assists with interdepartmental communications. + Assists with public relations. + Attends and participates in in-service education meetings and education seminars are requested. + Attends appropriate laboratory meetings. + Other related duties. **Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required** + 3+ years of laboratory experience Microbiology required **Education Required** + B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science **Registration/Certification** + ASCP **Physical/Environmental Requirements** This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use.
