Job Summary:
The position is responsible for the pick-up, transportation and delivery of laboratory specimens, requisitions, reports, X-rays, medications, and supplies from specified draw stations, clinics and physician’s offices, in a timely manner, on an assigned route.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Pick-up, screen and transport laboratory specimens and requisitions from specified, serviced draw stations, clinics and physician’s offices and deliver to Oswego Health Laboratory in a timely manner. Ensure all specimens are screened and labeled with the correct patient’s name and date of birth. Utilize approved containers to insure no biohazard spills. Pick-up and deliver completed laboratory reports, X-rays, medications. Maintain accurate record of all pick-ups and deliveries. Pick- up orders for requested supplies (ex. Paper products, ink, medical instruments, etc.), fill the orders, and deliver to specified Oswego Health facilities. Deliver clean laundry to the various Oswego Health facilities and return any soiled laundry to the hospital. Keep an accurate maintenance log of the courier vehicle, insuring that all of the fluids are adequate, tires are safe, and the inspection/registration stickers are current. Develops rapport and trust with local physicians and staff. Answers questions and requests with appropriate information or directs to appropriate personnel. Assist Physician office personnel with any lab related problems they call to your attention either by supplying information directly or informing the appropriate person back in the Lab. Alert Supervisor of any needed scheduled preventative maintenance or any unscheduled repairs on courier vehicle. Obey all traffic laws while operating the courier vehicle. Maintains confidentiality in all patient, hospital, and physician related information; demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information Ability to work in all types of weather conditions Perform other duties as assigned.Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):
Knowledge of infectious safety and infection control policies and procedures. Excellent time management skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to handle several tasks simultaneously. Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with clients and physicians. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to learn and apply all Seneca Hill Manor facility policies/procedures as they pertain to specific duties. Basic office skills such as typing, sorting and record keeping.Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid NYS Drivers License Clean driving record, excellent driving skills, and reliable personal vehicle. 4-5 years of licensed driving experience preferred. Ability to perform phlebotomy preferred. (Oswego Health will provide training for a qualified candidate)Working Conditions:
Position requires personal vehicle and extended periods of sitting and driving. Operation of a courier vehicle, either hospital or personal, to transport various types of equipment, supplies, records, and infectious/hazardous materials. Requires extended periods of sitting, standing, and traversing. Attendance ensures that job requirements are met. Position requires the operation of a cell phone in a safe manner. Occasionally requires cross-training, in-service programs, mandatory classes, and assignments to other units/shifts as needs require. Occasionally attends meetings with staff and committees. Requires ability to lift, move, carry, push or pull up to 30 lbs. using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment. Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizationsPay Range: $15.50-$17.05/hour
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
