Serves as the key education coordinator focusing on Laboratory education and process improvement of the system laboratory operations. The Laboratory Educator will support the Laboratory Managers and the Quality Systems Supervisor in monitoring and teaching to daily operations, system checks, and quality standards to assure the lab services are best practice. S/he/they will be responsible for Medical Technologist onboarding training, scheduling, and retention along with education and competency testing completion. The role requires a high degree of collaboration with laboratory leads, Supervisors, Managers and the Laboratory Director with the ability to coordinate necessary people, resources, and time. The Laboratory Educator serves as a resource person and role model for team members and creates a direct connection between the Laboratory and system Organization Development educational efforts.
This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, but must engage employees for project and performance work. S/he/they may be asked to serve as a bench technologist.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
* COORDINATION OF TRAINING ,ONBOARDING, EDUCATION, and EVALUATION
* Familiar with Standard concepts, practices and procedures within the laboratory.
* Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles used in diagnostic testing.
* Ability to interpret a variety of data furnished from different sources( i.e., written,verbal,statistical,historical trends).
* Regular and predictable attendance is essential for job function.
* Familiar with Laboratory Regulation requirements
Quality and Performance
* Coordinates an effective orientation and onboarding process for all new employees.
* Presents training programs and evaluate effectiveness of programs. Trains, or coordinates training, accordingly and consistently with all new employees.
* Administers and maintains a lab educational program and materials for lab staff and other health professionals. Monitors all continuing education and certifications.
* In concert with lab leadership, review of all standard operating procedures and train accordingly. Help implement necessary changes.
* Surveys team members and leadership to determine annual team education needs and searches out various educational opportunities to meet those needs.
* Manages staff competencies in a manner that meets regulatory requirements
* Maintains the NAH lab test catalog in the employee portal to ensure it is up to date and consistant with any changes.
* Assist Quality Systems Manager with inspection planning and preparedness
* Prepares and presents educational materials to laboroatory and outside personnel and departments.
* Works with Laboratory Director to establish an outreach program.
* Works with Laboratory Manager/Director to complete schedules and employee time card maintenance when necessary.
Operations
* Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the safety reporting tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Monitors Laboratory Instrumentation and procedures and assists staff with correct use and problem solving
* Works as a Medical Technologist as assigned
* May assist in resume review and interview process.
* Serves as a liason with other departments and outside faciliites.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

QualificationsEducation
Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or related field is required
Certification & Licensures
Documented of certification exam as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent.
Acceptable agencies are: ASCP, NCA, HHS, or AMT
Experience
Previous educational experience preferred.
