Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Manager.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for overseeing the day to day management of the Laboratory including but not limited to operational management, quality assurance, staffing, workflows, timekeeping, technician training, equipment maintenance, vendor agreements, etc. Partners with the PI and Division Administrator to consult on areas for improvement, compliance, quality assurance, and operational efficiency. Strictly adhere to the requirements of the relevant regulatory agencies, including NYS DOH Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program, NYU Langone Medical Center, NYC Fire Codes, in addition to State, Federal and other regulatory agencies.

Job Responsibilities:

Manages the day to day operations of the Laboratory.Manages a complex laboratory operation, with responsibility for the quality and quantity of the work of others, proper maintenance of laboratory conditions, safety procedures.Trains, supervises, and evaluates technical and support staff; determines work schedules and work assignments; recommends staffing levels.Prepares or supervises specimen processing and tracking as appropriate.Responsible for QC/QM laboratory program.Supervises shipping and receiving hazardous materials; chemical inventory, waste disposal, and inspections.Maintains Biosafety-Level 2 facilities approvals.Assures compliance with protocols (institutional and sponsored studies), training, practice, and record keeping related to human specimens, biosafety, bloodborne pathogens.Responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining inventories; equipment maintenance.Responsible for preparation of site inspections by sponsors and regulatory agency, laboratory files and records.Collaborates with the Principal Investigator and sponsors to assure efficient laboratory operations and compliance with regulatory agencies and procedures.Participates in discussions of research protocols and objectives.Covers as needed or in the absence of any technical staff.Other duties as per PI instructions.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a MS or MA degree with a major in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and ASCP-HT certification with a minimum of four years of experience at supervisory level in Anatomic Pathology (Immunohistochemistry & histology laboratories), or BS or BA degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and ASCP-HT certification with a minimum of five years of experience at supervisory level in Anatomic Pathology (Immunohistochemistry & histology laboratories. 5 years of prior managerial and supervisory experience is essential. Knowledge of Dermatopathology. Knowledge of pathology equipment and procedures used in all aspects of the laboratory including histology, special stains, and immunohistochemistry. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems. Ability to work independently without supervision. Ability to manage a heavy workload, demands on time and resources and prioritize effectively. NY State License and ASCP certification required. Effective oral, written, communication skills is required. Must be knowledgeable about computers and basic computer software (e.g., Word, Excel, etc.). Knowledge of Tamtron/Powerpath Lab Management System is preferred. Must communicate effectively with other healthcare providers, supervisors and peers.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $118,300.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
