Are you looking for a change in your veterinary career?  Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital is seeking a Laboratory/Pharmacy Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team. As an integral part of our team, you'll be at the forefront of providing exceptional care to our patients.

Your primary duties will include: 

Follow hospital’s general policies and protocolsReport accurate and timely test results to deliver high quality patient careMonitor and operate laboratory instrumentationAbility to prepare samples (blood, tissue, urine, etc.) for external lab testsPrepare and process laboratory blood samples utilizing Heska blood analyzersPrepare & read platelet smears and report results to the appropriate DVMExecute Blood type cross matchesPrepare & read various cytology samples (ear, urine, skin, etc.) and report results to the appropriate DVM Ensure lab requisitions and results are accurately recorded within the hospital information system and patient recordsAssure maintenance schedule of all laboratory equipment to meet hospital and vendor standardsPrepare and fill medications for both outpatients and hospitalized patients where permitted permitted by state law and in accordance to state lawPerform computer entry of prescription information including but not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation & entry, insurance billing and basic problem resolutionAssure maintenance of the Lab/Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and in orderAssist with drug inventory controlFollow appropriate hospital protocol for the dispensing and logging of controlled substancesExplain medications to the owners to assure they understand the doctor’s instructions using excellent customer service skillsCheck prescription refill line, keeping daily log of requests and filling prescriptions daily Manage the pharmacy log and ensure that refill requests are handled promptly Schedule:Either four 10-hour shifts or three 12-hour shiftsCompensation:$20 - $35 pending skills assessment levelingUp to $2000 sign on bonus paid out after 90 days of employmentNon Credentialed Veterinary Technician: Up to $1000 sign on bonusCredentialed Veterinary Technician: Up to $2,000 sign on bonus

About You: 

1 or more years of veterinary medicine experienceAssociates or Bachelors degree or CVT/LVT/RVTAbility to run in house lab equipment including but not limited to blood analyzers, centrifuge, and microscopeCytology skillsDemonstrated ability to build, develop and work within a teamYou are proficient in using Microsoft Word and Outlook and have basic Microsoft Excel skillsYou can multi-task and work within a fast-paced environmentYou have excellent communication skills, are courteous to clients as well as communicate with doctors and technicians to maintain workflow and excellent patient care.Have exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to perform basic drug calculations.We are a 24-hour, 365 day per year hospital, a minimum of two holiday shifts per year and the ability to work a rotating weekend schedule is required
