Job Overview:

This position is responsible for patient registration in the hospital system and data entry functions in the L.I.S. Ensures accurate collection of patient information. Verifies insurance in accordance with hospital policy, collects all applicable copays. Performs a variety of clerical functions as well as assists in preparing specimens for analysis and send out. Demonstrates strong public relations/communication skills. Performs additional tasks as requested by Medical Director or Pathologists on duty.

Qualifications:
Required:

High School DiplomaComputer experience a must.

Preferred:

Experience: Data entry or hospital experienceCPAR certified Knowledge of medical terminology and knowledge of insurance

Essential Functions:

Accurately assesses patient insurance information and correctly informs patients regarding co-pays and fees.Acts as a resource for questions regarding HIS or LIS or dept. information.Collects co-pays when possible and generates monthly reports.. Demonstrates willingness and flexibility in accepting schedule and assignments.Distributes mail to appropriate area or person.Functions as receptionist to patient, visitors, physicians and hospital staff.Greets customers in a professional and courteous manner introducing oneself. Utilizes excellent communication skills; exhibits a courteous, positive, responsive attitude.Maintains clerical area clean and well organized.Orders departmental supplies as needed.Performs all other related duties as neededPerforms a variety of clerical functions which may include filing, Xeroxing, faxing and billing as some of the functions.Periodically reviews policy/procedure manuals to ensure compliance; participates in training/ orientation of new employees.Prepares & delivers specimens to the appropriate departments in a timely and accurate manner.Performs registration function for patients according to federal and state regulations.Makes appointments for patients, pick ups, etc.Demonstrates ability to work under stressful situations. Maintains professional demeanor at all times.Accurately assesses patient insurance information and correctly informs patients regarding copays, fees and ABN.Assists the technical staff as neededMonitors Outpatient Exception and Denial reports and makes appropriate corrections.Explains registration function accurately for patients according to federal and state regulations.
