Laboratory Research Technician I

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Technician I for Dr. Takashi Kozai’s laboratory in the Department of Bioengineering. This technician will be responsible for maintaining the operational functions of a Neuroscience and Neurobiology lab.

The position of Laboratory Technician I in the Kozai lab in the Department of Bioengineering will have the responsibility of assisting with the direction of the daily activities of the laboratory. The incumbent will assist with updating IACUC protocols, maintaining animals and inventory, interacting with vendors and facility management, and managing equipment. Aside from the administrative duties, the candidate will also coordinate interdisciplinary research projects, assist with leading a research team to perform specialized experimental procedures such as neural implant surgery, perform animal perfusion, histological tissue processing, staining and imaging. Incumbent should have a bachelor's degree, a background in biology, and have experience with two-proton image analysis.

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.

Ability to speak clearly for telephone contact, have manual dexterity to use equipment, and to walk to various locations throughout the campus.
