Position Description
Maintains responsibility for the effective coordination of Laboratory operations. Evaluates daily activities and makes operational changes necessary to improve service levels. Prepares departmental policies and procedures and updates on a regular basis. Ensures annual review and documentation by Laboratory Medical Director. Develops, implements, and analyzes workflow to maximize productivity and ensure proper techniques and procedures are being followed. Maintains responsibility for creating and posting work schedule for staff and ensuring proper staff coverage. Verifies time and attendance in hospital system. Identifies problematic processes and provides resolution to ensure that no adverse patient outcome occurs. Develops departmental goals and objectives and polices and procedures, in concert with the Manager and Director, which meet the service needs of the department and the organization. Coordinates Materials Management activities to ensure adequate inventories, identifies cost reduction strategies and evaluates and implements new products and systems. Coordinates implementation of new systems with other laboratory sites when applicable. Participates on hospital committees that address operational issues. Supports research studies and clinical trials in conjunction with participating physicians. May develop or assist with developing agreements, procedures, billing and reporting processes to ensure proper implementation of protocols. Creates contract accounts as required. Performs bill resolution and admissions paperwork resolution.
Position Requirements
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
B.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Physical, or Biological science, plus one (1) year experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital based clinical laboratory, ORB.S. or B.A. degree in Education, Business Administration, or other health related specialty, plus two (2) years’ experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital based clinical laboratory, OR
Two (2) year Associate Degree in a health related specialty or Business Administration, plus three (3) years of experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital based clinical laboratory, OR
Four (4) years of experience as a phlebotomist and laboratory data clerk in a hospital based clinical laboratory.
2. Three (3) years of hospital based phlebotomy supervisory experience.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
Possess excellent verbal and written communication, mathematical, and analytical skills. Demonstrate knowledge of information systems, software applications and telecommunication systems. Demonstrate the ability to make decisions, solve problems, and promote laboratory services and organization to physicians and general public.
