Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites.
The Chemistry Lab Supervisor will manage the daily 24/7 operation of the Chemistry Lab at Moses while interacting with customers (providers) and resources outside of the department (IT, Procurement, vendors) for reaching the goals of the laboratory and the health system. This position will oversee all aspects of the operation: personnel, equipment installation and maintenance, material, and quality management. The manager is responsible for providing excellent patient care in a timely manner and is integral in the standardization of testing and method validation across the medical center’s campuses.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the daily operations of the Chemistry Lab at the Moses campus, all shifts. Ensure quality patient care, compliance with regulatory agencies. Meet the goals and expectation of the department and the medical center.
• Develop, implement, and validate Chemistry methodology in conjunction with lab directors
• Review, update and standardize of Chemistry procedures across chemistry labs at all campuses.
• Investigate and troubleshoot adverse events related to the Chemistry Laboratory, such as concerns from clinicians about test results, proficiency test deficiencies, and regulatory inspection deficiencies. Document the findings of the investigation, develop a corrective action plan, and ensure it is followed. Provide training across sites to address these proficiency testing failures and inspection deficiencies
• Oversee the Quality Assurance and Quality Control program in the Chemistry Laboratory including but not limited to review of linearities, correlations, proficiency testing, and quality improvement projects
• Manage human resources: develop staffing plans, hire, train, and discipline staff, assess competency, plan for cross training of technologists. Interact with 1199, resolve discipline issues.
• Oversee the inventory management for the Moses Chemistry Laboratory. Develop a system to manage product expiration and reagent lot to lot correlations across sites
• In collaboration with other managers, develop and implement a training program for cross-training of hematology and chemistry technologists
• Participate at departmental and medical center meetings. Develop relationships conducive to building bridges with customers and colleagues.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree required in science or related field; Masters preferred
• NYS clinical laboratory technologist license is required
• 10 years + of work experience preferred, minimum 4 years of bench experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 2 years of bench experience with a Masters degree required
• Competency with the use of laboratory equipment and computer skills
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
This position is located at the Moses campus in the Chemistry lab. The hours are 12:00 am - 8:30 am on the weekends.
