The incumbent is responsible for the analysis, experimentation or substances and performs chemical and physical tests required for quality control of processes and products.  Performs laboratory test to all raw materials (silicones) and other components in order to approve their release for use in manufacturing operations. Conducts laboratory research when necessary to help in the solution of raw material related problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Test and analyzes raw materials such as silicones, solvents, and samples products to determine chemical and physical properties.

In Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments, such as chromatographs, furnace, oven viscometer, chemical balance scales, and other equipment. Prepares test solutions, compounds, and reagents as required by the appropriate test. Prepares the toxicity samples of the materials as required and coordinates with outside labs for scheduling this test and obtaining their results as needed. Conducts all the ETO Residual studies required in on orderly, correct, and consistent manner. Maintains all Discrepant Material Reports until the final disposition of the product is made.

Test and analyzes post sterilization testing to product. Prepare IQ, OQ and PQ of instrument when is required, performs testing. Evaluate and approve Chemistry laboratory test results. Conducts research on raw materials and systems, or as required to solve existing raw material issues affecting the manufacturing operations. Confers with Supervisors or Engineers to conduct analysis, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard test as required. Aids in the microbiology area as required. Prepares reports of test results or other related information as required by the supervisor. Performs all required test for the validation of the Depyrogenizations ovens in the plant and supports other validations as assigned annually. May perform other related duties as requested by the supervisor.

Complies and analyzes test information to determine operating efficiency of process or equipment and to diagnose malfunctions. Maintains inventory of reagents and spill supplies properly identified and places purchase requisitions whenever material stock reaches reorder levels. Follows laboratory safety measures to avoid accidents or incorrect preparation of components or tests. Maintains file of records and reports required in an orderly preparation of components or tests. Assures all instruments used for test are properly calibrated and notifies Supervisor when any dis-adjustments occur. Prepares/ Maintains reports & logs to comply with Homeland Security Police Department requirement for Explosive license for labs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – Education and Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

BS in Chemistry or Sciences equivalent, Chemist license is strongly desired.0 to 3 years’ experience in an FDA regulated manufacturing environmentOne to two years’ experience in Quality Assurance functions.
