Laboratory Technician, Experienced

As the Laboratory Technician you will support production of 200 Series, AP, SD, LPSD, LXR, Furnace and CCD Operations in the Silica Plant.  Production support is accomplished by testing samples, inputting results in the database, and communicating with operations personnel, shift supervisor, and shipping shift supervisor about samples, results, and unit operations which affect the Silica Laboratory.  The “Operations” Analyst is the primary contact person in the Silica Laboratory who keeps up to date with operations’ concerns and needs; with the assistance of the Laboratory Supervisor.  The Shift Analyst functions as the technical link that provides critical physical and chemical testing information, in which the operating units in turn, make adjustments to their processes to remain “in-control”.

Key Responsibilities

Communicate plant occurrences to relief shift analyst at shift change between 6:15 and 6:30 (AM or PM). Read and initial logbook notes and current SAS emails.Ensure that instruments to be used are in-control on the control charts and have been calibrated.For an analysis that is out of specification, take action according to procedures.Record all analysis results in the Lab Database on the computer system as soon as practical after completing tests. Careful transfer all information from the sample bottle to the analysis sheet, and, in the case of special samples, mark the bottle (quarterly, etc.) so that it can be found at a later date.  If the sample has a tag, transfer all tag information to the bottle.                Assist Shipping Analyst with testing. Provide coverage for Shipping Analyst when necessary.Analyze any shipping samples for early morning shipments including bin samples.Complete daily and quarterly housekeeping requirements.

Qualifications

High school diplomaAt least 1 year of related experience
