Job Description:

Lab Technician – Waterborne Coating Technology

Overview

Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Lab Technician to join our Industrial Building Products Technology Group in High Point, North Carolina. This individual will conduct routine testing along with complex research laboratory activities to support our fundamental understanding of coatings technology in support of Axalta’s growth initiatives.  The role of Technician will report into the Building Products Technology Manager.

Responsibilities:

Conduct experiments independently and collect, summarize, and present the resulting dataTroubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occurIdentify and suggest improvements in methodsDocument findings and communicate results using programs such as Word and ExcelInspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work locationMaintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work locationShipping and receiving to support R&D laboratoryMaintain laboratory assets following Standard Operating ProceduresAssist with development and documenting Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory assets and processesPreparation and evaluation of coating formulations including sealer, primer, topcoat and clear coat using mixing equipment and various coating application equipment, including manual and automated processes.Safely handle, categorize, and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis.Handling multiple tasks under strict time constraints

Education:

2-year degree from college or technical school; or equivalent experience in an industrial laboratory environment.

Qualifications:

Prefer 2-year experience in an industrial setting. Experience in research and development lab is preferredAble to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting established deadlinesComfortable working with hazardous materialsStrong interest in hands-on work to ensure a good understanding of the productsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.Effective problem solver.Strong problem solving and decision-making skillsPossess excellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to write routine reports and correspondence
