Laboratory Technician

Job Description:

Axalta Coating Systems has an exciting opportunity for an associate/technician position within their formulation group to develop next generation of automotive paint. The position will be based out of our state of the art Global Innovation Center in Philadelphia. With more than 150 years’ history in automotive paint formulation and surface protection, Axalta has played a key role in bringing innovative technologies to the market. The ideal candidate will work with a team of other technicians and take directions from scientists and engineers to support development and testing of paints.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Assist in the design and execution of experiments and collect, summarize and present the resulting data.Measurement of typical physical properties and development of test methods pertaining to characterization of colloidal systems.Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur.Producing research experimental results, or information/data management results, or assembling and configuring of small/pilot scale equipment and control systems utilizing a variety of techniques.Documenting findings and communicating results.Draws logical conclusions and contributes to formulating work plans and managing daily workflow.Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct laboratory experiments.Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments.Maintain a safe working environment.Preparation and evaluation of coating formulations including base coat and clear coat using mixing equipment and various spray equipment.Accurately running and recording test results for all coatings formulations.Interpretation and communication of test results.Proficient at using Micorsoft Office Suite of products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etcSafely handle, categorize and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis.Ability to multi-task under strict time constraints.

Qualifications

A 2 year degree from a college or technical school with at least three years of industrial laboratory experience in wet chemistryLaboratory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong interest in hands-on work pertaining to formulation and wet-chemistry.Effective problem solver.Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work well in both self-managed and team environment.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Proficiency in the use of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
