EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Technician in Baton Rouge, LA. The technician supports the laboratory analysts by preparing samples for analysis. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Preparation of environmental samples prior to analysis for FLAA Sample Prep, ICP Sample Prep, Air Sample Prep, Bulk Sample Prep, Gravimetric Prep, TEM Prep, and NOB Prep- any areas of prep related to client work
Preform standard and non-standard laboratory prep procedures according to internal SOPs for microbiology samples received from clients
Media and reagent preparation and quality control
Assist with autoclave duties
Prepare samples for Lead (Pb) analysis on various media such as gauze wipes, paint chips, air cassettes, drinking water, food, bulk and materials, etc.
Should be able to preform basic chemistry tasks such as pipetting, performance of volumetric measurements and the utilization of analytical balances
Analysis of asbestos through Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM)
Record data in a specific, clear and concise manner
Assist with light cleaning of laboratory when needed
Must have good laboratory practices
Assist with working on special projects as needed
Assist with laboratory organization, supply inventory, calibrations, and cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Other laboratory and clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, faxing, copying, may be assigned by lab staff and manager as needed
Requirements:
High School degree/equivalent
Associates/Bachelors Degree in Life Science a plus
One to two years’ of previous academic or commercial lab experience a plus.
Experience with microscope, Flame-AA, ICP is desired
Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
Good communication skills (will have some client interaction)
Proficient in typing and Microsoft Office
Attention to detail
Must have an understanding of custody client confidentiality
Ability to work independently and with a team
Ability to work well under pressure and meet client deadlines
Available Shift:
Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
