Laboratory Technician-PGD
Title: Laboratory Technician-PGD Location: Upper East Side Org Unit: PGD Lab Work Days: Weekdays and some weekends Weekly Hours: 35.00 Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: $25.93 - $28.98 *As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices **Position Summary** Under direction, performs technical work related to the clinical and research aspects of the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis Laboratory. Participates in research projects related to the development of new generation PGD technologies. **Job Responsibilities** + Monitor PGD patients' retrieval fertilization biopsy dates on IVFWin, coordinating referral lab specimen shipping dates. + Assist embryo biopsy and PGD/PGS specimen handling. + Assist clinical array CGH and/or next generation sequencing for preimplantation genetic diagnosis. + May perform routine molecular biology laboratory procedures, such as PCR, protein and DNA electrophoresis, cloning and DNA preparation. + Ensures that facilities and equipment are in optimal and proper working condition. Coordinates preventative maintenance and repairs as needed. May perform minor repairs if qualified and as needed. May advise on upgrades for performance enhancements. + Prepares and maintains detailed records, logs and summary reports of all procedures and results including graphs, scientific calculations, and statistical analysis charting. + May be responsible for the receipt, storage, cataloguing and shipment of samples within and between institutions. + Ensures a clean working area and is responsible for washing and storing glassware. + Ensures that safe laboratory practices are followed, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials. + May participate in planning and carrying out experiments. May assists in preparing research protocols. + Analyzes data using computer software and reports results to the principle investigator(s). + May conduct library research and literature searches using various computer systems. May assist in editing scientific publications, abstracts and posters. + Provides technical support to faculty and staff including training of new employees, residents, postdoctoral associates, fellows and students. **Education** + Bachelor's Degree in related field **Experience** Approximately one year of previous clinical laboratory experience **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Ability to work flexible hours. **Licenses and Certifications** **Working Conditions/Physical Demands** Standard laboratory conditions; This position may handle biologic materials from human subjects as required; This position may require standing or sitting for long periods of time Weill Cornell Medicine is an equal opportunity employer.
