Laboratory Technologist II (pre-clinical research)

GDIT's Military Health Team is hiring a pre-clinical LaboratoryTechnologist II to support the 59th Medical Wing located at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX.

The 59th Medical Wing Science and Technology (ST) office advises and conducts clinical and translational research on matters pertaining to the medical aspects of the Air Expeditionary Force and the health of Air Force (AF) personnel and beneficiaries. In order to support the required research, ST offices conduct translational research in the areas of emergency medical care, combat casualty care, force health protection, restorative medicine, clinical and rehabilitative medicine and specialty centers.


HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

Collaborates with PIs, in order to develop and execute IACUC approved research protocols.Execute animal (reodents & swine) use research supporting combat casulaty care projects.Work as a member of the research team to complete research-related tasks in compliance with federal, DOD and AF research guidelines. Maintain administrative and research records precisely, accurately, and completely; do so in a timely manner.Collect, transport and prepare samples for laboratory analysis, storage, and/or shipping.Compile  and  analyze  laboratory  data,  and  support  other  members  of  the  research  teams  to facilitate success of research work from concept to completion.Perform  duties  as  needed  to  further  and  improve  the  strategic  direction  of  research  projects, consistent with the Chief Scientist's priorities.Evaluate and disseminate results and findings, with guidance from senior research staff.Ensure equipment/instrumentation is functioning properly, by performing and documenting quality control procedures.Conduct  operational  testing  related  to  diagnosis,  treatment,  and  maintenance  of  clinical  health problems  of  concern  to  the  warfighter  and  beneficiaries  of  military  healthcare  and  aerospace expeditionary operations.Perform biochemical, cell biological, molecular biological, and other experimental work as needed and required for successful completion of projects.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED (required):

Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences, (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, biology, cell biology, chemistry, microbiology, or related disciplines).Hands on expereince working with rodent and, or swine models.5+ years of recent laboratory experience, preferably within the last six (6) years that includes performing various molecular biological and/or protein analysis techniques.Workign knowledge of medical terminology, to include common medical and scientific abbreviations, and have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within field of study.Recommended candidate is certified as a Medical Laboratory Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology or National Certifying Agency.Knowledge medical terminology, to include common medical and scientific abbreviations, and have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within field of study.US citizenship with ability to pass a favorable public trust investigation.
