We are hiring up to eight (8) full time temporary Labourer 2, Water Distribution Construction positions (for up to 24 months), to join our crew working out of the Aurum location in Edmonton, AB!

EPCOR Water Services is looking for self-motivated and hard-working individuals with previous labourer experience to work outdoors in all weather conditions to operate and maintain the Water Distribution & Transmission (WDT) network in Edmonton, AB.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

Reporting to the Manager, WDT Underground Construction, the Labourer 2, position is accountable for, but not limited to:

 

Working on an excavation crew to install or repair water mains, valves, hydrants, services and other assets.Operating valves, flushing hydrants in the system, and taking water samples.Backfilling and restoring sites.Loading the truck with necessary materials and driving between sites.Updating statuses and safe work plans through computerized systems.Performing day-to-day operational duties standard in a water and wastewater utility, along with a variety of other related duties as assigned.Making safety a priority and supporting the achievement of a "zero injury" culture.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

 

Successfully attained a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent level of secondary education.A minimum of 1 year of related labour experience.Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License Limited to 6 demerits or less (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be valuated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file) A Driver Abstract (5yr. Commercial type) will be required.Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver's permit.Ability to complete Labourer competency passport within six months of their hire date.Alberta Environment Water Distribution Certification – Level 1 is an asset.Ability to meet the physical and medical demands required of this position.Clearance on a pre-placement medical assessment, drug and alcohol testingLifting/carrying weights up to 22kg (50lbs) on a daily basisWithstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons.Security Background Clearance (criminal check) and professional (work related) reference checks will be required.

 

As our best candidate, you have well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work well within a team environment. You have a strong commitment to safety and have the ability to work unsupervised in a busy and occasionally stressful environment. In addition to maintaining a safe work record, you are mechanically inclined and actively demonstrate analytical and problem solving capabilities when facing challenging issues in the workplace. Other demonstrated competencies required to be successful in this position include taking initiative, adapting to change combined with your focus on continuous improvement for not only yourself, but the team you are working with.

Starting Wage: $27.51 per hour

Final wage placement will be determined at the time of selection

 

Hours of work: 10 hours per day, 4 days per week. Some successful candidates may participate in a rotating shift schedule (day and night) which is subject to compressed hours and the "Alternate Hours of Work Addendum" as per the current CUPE 30 Collective Agreement.

 

As a successful candidate you will be required to work a standby rotation shift (Wednesday to Wednesday), may be required to work overtime and perform job duties at work locations both within and outside the boundaries of the City of Edmonton.
