Business Need / Purpose of Role:
Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, the role of Laborer is responsible for performing all general duties associated with handling of materials and tooling to support the operational aspects of the service center and pattern shop in an accurate, timely, safe, and cost-efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Objectives & Measurement
Key Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities:
Maintains inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials and supplies in stock; recording location of inventory.
Locates materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials and supplies listed on production orders.
Maintains in-process inventory at work centers by delivering and opening materials and supplies.
Documents materials and supplies disposition by recording units delivered and location of units.
Receives credit-return material and supplies from production by verifying materials and supplies code and lot number and quantity; placing materials in stock.
Prepares finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing product.
Documents product shipment by recording units shipped.
Maintains material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections; making operator repairs.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Pulling, organizing, and preparation of pattern equipment.
Load/unload trucks, inside and outside, using pallet jacks, powered industrial trucks or overhead jib cranes, in a manner preventing damage and in compliance with good safety practices.
Locate and pull parts of various sizes and materials to fill machining, assembly, and customer orders, in accordance with warehouse inventory management system and current distribution procedures.
Stock shelves, racks, or ground locations and store parts in their proper location according to warehouse inventory management system and current distribution procedures. Stock parts in a safe and neat manner, bearing in mind size/weight limitations.
Accurately perform all paperwork/data entry functions associated with shipping/receiving/material handling procedures.
Properly prepare product being shipped, whether packaged in box, on a skid, or in a crate based on size, bulk, and quantity, keeping in mind safety, weight, size, potential damage, and customer domestic/export requirements.
Perform daily maintenance and housekeeping of equipment and work areas including all designated distribution storage locations, keeping safety in mind at all times. Submit recommendations with respect to improvements essential to effective operations.
Assist in the development of improved methods and procedures with regard to all areas of responsibility.
Regular and reliable attendance is key to performance of this job.
Assist in the training of new employees, insuring adherence to proper distribution procedures, paperwork, and safety procedures.
Attend department, employee, safety, and training meetings as required.
Comply with all Company policies, procedures, and programs.
Promote and maintain a flexible, cooperative, team oriented, and customer focused attitude within and between departments.
Keep team manager and team leader aware of pertinent issues and information warranting their knowledge, action and/or resolution.
Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
Responsible for Environmental Health and Safety management and policy commitments as prescribed for this role in Weir's Duty of Care.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two years shipping, receiving, and material handling experience in a distribution/manufacturing environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Requires a valid driver’s license. Licensed in forklift.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Organization, Scheduling, Analyzing Information, Dealing with Complexity, Deadline-Oriented, Time Management, Process Improvement, Safety Management, Inventory Control, Lifting, Data Entry Skills. MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDS
Requires the ability to operate all powered industrial truck equipment such as forklift, and crane; and all other equipment associated with pattern shop and manufacturing, such as carpentry tools, hand tools, overhead and jib cranes, lifting chains and slings, pneumatic air hammers, power hand saws, pneumatic stapler, etc. in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as computer and job-related software (Microsoft Office & Lotus Notes), telephone, fax, photocopier, etc.
