The Lactation Consultant visits with the breast feeding mothers and their families, providing information and support in the in-patient and outpatient settings. The lactation consultant works with other breast feeding specialists to develop the breastfeeding care plan to provide education to staff and families. Conducts patient rounds as needed to assess education needs of patients and to evaluate effectiveness of existing programs.Participates in prenatal breastfeeding education classes.Compiles and maintains a current list of resource materials and make available to patients as needed. Conduct outpatient follow up/post discharge phone callsFunctions as a resource to medical staff regarding lactation issues. Effectively communicates patient and family needs too nurses and physicians as needed.
