This posting will be used to fill up to 2 internships in Brainerd, Minnesota.
These positions are anticipated to begin in mid-April or Mid-May and run through August. Housing is not provided with any of these internships. These internships may require overnight travel. When traveling, lodging and transportation are provided, and cost of meals will be reimbursed. Regular workdays are Monday through Thursday from 7:00am to 5:30pm.
Land Survey Interns will provide technical and physical assistance in surveying and mapping for the Division of Lands and Minerals Survey Section.
Responsibilities include:
+ Assembling detailed project information for property surveys by plotting air photos, printing GLO plats, and scanning property maps.
+ Preparing land use maps using AutoCAD Civil 3D, performing mathematical computations, and compiling and analyzing data.
+ Assisting with boundary and topographic surveys by collecting data, utilizing GNSS/GPS and Conventional surveying methods.
+ Operating data collector and checking computations for any possible errors.
+ Assisting in establishing boundary lines of State property by flagging property corners and monuments, cutting brush, and communicating with private landowners.
**Minimum Qualifications**
To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:
+ You must be a student at an accredited educational institution; AND
+ Your advisor must certify that you will either receive academic credit or fulfill an academic requirement. The signature of a sponsoring academic instructor is required prior to beginning an internship.
AND
+ Majoring in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or closely related field.
+ Ability to work in adverse weather and environmental conditions.
+ Strong organizational and interpersonal skills sufficient to compile data and communicate with the public.
+ Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D sufficient to create worksheets and make computations.
+ Mathematical skills sufficient to make accurate calculations and identify errors.
+ Navigation skills sufficient to travel through the field.
+ Ability to use standard land survey data collection tools (i.e. total station, automatic level, RTK GPS, and electronic metal locator).
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Knowledge of laws relative to land surveying.
+ Knowledge of geographic information systems, boundary law, and spatial analysis
+ Experience creating maps in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
**Additional Requirements**
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.
