Job Description
We are looking for a driven and hard-working candidate who has some experience as a surveyor. This person will be aiding and working alongside the survey party crew chief on numerous projects in South Carolina. Projects vary: DOT, Commercial, Federal, Government, Industrial, Power Companies, Warehouses, etc.
ResponsibilitiesLocate, review, and research job locations for identifying landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes that would affect the survey.Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate and organize the work efforts.Supervise the standard of work being performed and derive the necessary field calculations from work completed.Supervise the maintenance of instruments and equipment.Ensure that angles, distances, and other collected information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards.Coordinate findings of the work with engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.Complete daily logs and expense reports.Complete company and/or client safety forms and make sure all crew members are following safety procedures.Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.Essential SkillsFamiliarity with commonly used surveying terms and with the use and care of survey tools and other survey field equipment used for measuring, sighting, and leveling.Proficiency in the operation of survey equipment such as the Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various Global Positioning System (GPS) methods.Surveying experience is a plus (not required).Hard-working and great communication skills.Data Collection/Total Station, Survey, Land surveying, Topography, construction stakeout.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.0-1 years of surveying experience.Good technical skills: process-oriented behavioral traits including being steady, helpful, analytical, a problem solver, likes working alone when required, methodical, consistent, detail-oriented, precise, dislikes mistakes, likes structure.Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable motor vehicle record, a cleared back ground check, and a negative drug test result.Work Environment
Some overnight travel may be required. Requires a lot of walking outside year-round through all kinds of terrain and in extreme heat and cold. Monday - Friday, 7 AM - 5 PM. Overtime is earned depending on the project load. On average, surveyors work 50-60 hours a week. Will report to the Charleston office daily to meet with the surveying team to be allocated to the project and team. There is about 50% travel involved with this role, and the technician must be willing to travel if necessary. Physical requirements include the ability to work in environments that may contain venomous snakes and insects, stand for long periods, work in a wide range of temperatures, climb hills, walk long distances, traverse different types of terrain, lift and carry up to 75 lbs, and interact both verbally and in writing.
