Basic Function:  Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Production Planner is responsible for leading, coordinating, and managing the production schedule and coordinating required materials through various production departments to satisfy customer delivery while optimizing production efficiencies and inventory investment.  Individual must be able to optimize inventory investments in raw material and finished goods, while maintaining excellent customer satisfaction levels.  Individual will work with suppliers in ordering and releasing raw materials in accordance with the production schedule that they are responsible to create. This position will also work with other plant personnel on continuous improvement methods in scheduling and inventory control.

Principle Functional Responsibilities:

Drives Safety as a Core Value for themselves and everyone in the plant. Create executable production schedules that meet the needs of our customers while also meeting the KPI’s of our business plan. Work very closely with the Value Stream Managers to ensure the labor matches the requirements of the production load and to gain agreement on each production schedule issued. Arrange availability of raw materials or in-process materials/components, which are required to start, support, and complete the manufacturing process in accordance with current manufacturing specifications. Analyze, investigate, evaluate and implement intermediate and long-range purchase requirements, specifications, pricing and sources, as well as study and develop advanced procurement plans, methods and techniques to meet these requirements. Work with plant personnel on continuous improvement programs and projects to advance manufacturing further to world class status. Develop and implement materials management systems and programs to eliminate supplier (internal and external) non-conformances and improve delivery, packaging, and material presentation method. Interpret, implement and hold suppliers accountable to common material specifications and standards.   Flow down manufacturing methodologies to the supply base (SPC, JIT, EDI, SMI, Kanban, etc.)

Key Requirements:

A results driven individual who has demonstrated ability working in a high performance-manufacturing environment. Must have good attention to details but be able to manage the big picture and have a “make the numbers” mentality. Must be able to manage multiple, complex tasks and deal easily with pressure on a day in and day out basis. Must be able to motivate, communicate and drive continuous improvement. Critical thinker, with excellent analytical abilities. Good written and oral communication skills. Solid planning, leadership and administrative skills. High energy, demonstrates urgency in a fast pace environment. Proven ability to work in teams. Must have experience with Microsoft Office Applications.

Desired Background:

Proven experience in establishing an effective material planning and resource system. Experience in MRP and pull flow systems. 3 - 5 years' experience in production planning in the manufacturing arena Experienced negotiator in managing vendors and suppliers assuring best price, quality to specification and on-time delivery. Materials background; able to understand and develop appropriate product specifications.

Education:

Minimum of a BS/BA degree in related field preferred.
