About Lihir

 

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose

 

The Lead, Business Integrity & Compliance PNG will oversee the execution of the business integrity and compliance programs for the business unit, ensuring alignment with Newmont’s Code of Conduct, policies, and regional standards.

Essential Duties

 

Among other accountabilities, the Lead, Business Integrity & Compliance PNG will be responsible for:

 

Manage the execution of BI&C programs for the business unit and sites to ensure adherence to Newmont’s Code of Conduct, policies, and standards, including Anti-Corruption, Gifts and Entertainment, Conflicts of Interest, U.S. Export Compliance, and other relevant regional and site-specific requirements.Create communication materials, training resources, and tools for the Code of Conduct and other compliance programs.Align the site BI&C program with Newmont’s global standards by developing and delivering activities and training that follow local guidelines.Conduct and support integrity and compliance investigations and audits at sites, managing the Integrity Helpline and case management. Develop and implement annual training for site personnel, contractors, vendors, community members, and government officials on integrity and compliance issues. Execute Third Party Due Diligence and supplier pre-qualification programs, overseeing related clearance and training activities.Provide advice on COI clearance issues, monitor BI&C trends and risks to identify gaps, and share relevant metrics with stakeholders. Evaluate proposed gifts, payments, or compensation for government officials and traditional authorities.Represent BI&C in internal committees and external compliance activities.

 

Training & Experience

 

Bachelor’s degree in a related field At least 5 years of experience in the field.U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the U.K. Bribery Act Papua New Guinea compliance rules and regulations. Compliance programs and auditing Investigation processes and procedures Operational issues in a multi-national context Mining, construction, utilities or other heavy industry experience Fluency in English and Tok Pisin is preferred MS office skills and compliance systems knowledge and experience – Third Party Due Diligence platforms, Helpline and Case Management tools, COI disclosure platforms, etcWorking Conditions

 

This role is based in Lihir and we are flexible in considering residential housing options, FIFO or Monday to Friday roster arrangements for the right candidate.
