The Technology Data and Analytics (TDA) team at Northern Trust (NT) is seeking a Data Governance lead. Under the direction of the Data Governance Manager, they will be responsible for adopting, adapting, defining, implementing and maintaining data governance policies, standards, and procedures for the technology organization at NT. The function will implement and maintain data governance standards, implement a data governance methodology and be responsible for overall data governance maturity improvement across the organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for creating and refining data governance procedures in concert with the enterprise data governance roadmap and industry standardsCollaborate with stakeholders to identify data governance resources and work with the various technology and business functions to mature data ownership and stewardship.Advises development of data quality framework as well as set standards for measurement that ensure that data is fit for its purposePrioritizes and Implements continuously improving data governance, communication and change management plan in collaboration with partners across the organization while balancing quality, risk and costPlans and conducts company wide data awareness and education campaignsThrives in a team environment, providing thought and execution leadership  Responsible for strengthening the business glossary, metadata management, retention, classification and data lineage procedures, ensuring regulatory complianceClose collaboration with 2nd and 3rd LOD to ensure the timely completion of remediation effortsAct as a key technology data governance representative for assessments such as RCSA and DCAMPartner with other teams and staff on complex and multi-tiered projects that data governance will be a part ofWork with CXO teams on data classification and security to manage sensitive dataParticipates in business requirements gathering activities and deep dive the critical business applications to identify data governance and quality improvements, and automation opportunitiesParticipates in data governance review board meetings to asses business terms, definitions and CDEs within Technology Services

Desired Qualifications:

Practical experience in implementing company wide data governance framework and delivering data capabilities, with strong communication, presentation and influencing skills.Adequate understanding of the Technology DomainSufficient understanding of the Data Privacy and Data Security standards and practices as they relate to Personally Identifiable Information (GDPR and CCPA)Prior experience with RDARR and BCBS 239 is a strong plusKnowledge of industry leading data governance practices, preferably in Technology and Financial Services.Experience in working with 2nd and 3rd LODExperience using the data governance tools like Collibra Enterprise Catalog, Collibra Data Quality and BigID.Ability to work on complex projects and get them finished on time with high quality standardsAbility to juggle multiple, parallel, priorities10+ years of related data governance experience with increasing scope, complexity and responsibility, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in functional areas is highly desiredBachelors or Master’s degree in data analytics, computer science or related field is preferredDemonstrated experience in scaling up data governance across large organizationsDemonstrated strong organization skills in large, geographically dispersed organizationsExperience with SQL, PowerBI, Azure cloud services, Snowflake a strong plus

Salary Range:

$78,945 - 134,235 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
