Summary About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and is located at the Accounting Office. This is a NAF (Non-Appropriated Fund) position assigned to the 31st Force Support Squadron at Aviano AB, Italy. Responsibilities Relays instructions from supervisor; gets the work started; sets the work place; demonstrates work methods and provides work related guidance; ensures that worksite materials and tools are available; checks with supervisor on problems; checks work and meets productivity goals; ensures employees follow security, safety, and housekeeping rules; conducts on-the-job training and instructions; and may perform supervisory duties in an emergency or other short-term or on a nonrecurring basis. Performs a full range of accounting duties using double-entry accrual accounting work (either in payables or receivables) in order to maintain a combination of journals and ledgers. Examines, verifies, and analyzes a wide variety of documents to determine their mathematical correctness, completeness of information, validity, and clerical accuracy. Types of documents depend on what section incumbent is working (payables or receivables); types of documents include (but are not limited to): purchase orders, property records, discount payments, partial payments, activity report, daily income, cashier's report, in-house deposit invoices, surprise cash counts, etc. Resolves disagreements by contacting vendors, activity managers or applicable person; completes posting documents with attached supporting documentation, codes documents and posts to appropriate ledger or journal. Posts and totals general ledger accounts daily and/or month. Prepares worksheets, statements, and close accounts. Prepares reports monthly, quarterly, and annually, reflecting the financial condition of activities serviced by the accounting office. Reports prepared may include profit and loss statements, financial statements, and miscellaneous financial reporting data. Recommends to supervisor employees (in their section) for awards and provides bullet statements to management to prepare award packages. Uses computer and various data programs; works with various agencies resolving computer problems and errors. Performs other related duties as assigned. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have ability to lead three or more workers to accomplish accounting technician work. Must have NAF Accounting Office experience. Must have experience in work which provided comprehensive knowledge of double-entry accounting methods, procedures, and techniques used in maintaining and analyzing all classes of accounts system encompassing a number of diversified activities; experience in reviewing financial settlements and reports. May substitute an accounting degree from an accredited university for experience or a minimum of 9 hours of accounting course work. Experience providing high level customer service to internal/external customers. Experience with accounting systems sufficient to flow individual funds from initiation through expenditure stages. Experience interpreting and applying regulations, policies, and procedures. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution in order to qualify. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation. All Federal NAF employees are required by PL 104-134 to have salary payments made by electronic funds transfer/direct deposit. Probationary period may be required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from hiring preferences and priority consideration eligible.
