Lead Acute Therapist Level I & II

I. Position Summary:
Administers medically prescribed PM&R programs and treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of body part. Supervises day to day operational and clinical activity of the Physical Medicine Department under the direction of the Department Director.

II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Director of PM&R
B. Workers Supervised: Evaluating therapist and therapy aides
C. Interrelationships: Works closely with Acute evaluating staff,
PM&R Director, PM&R Outpatient Therapy Office Manager, Other PM&R Leads, physicians, nursing and related hospital personnel, constant contact with patients and families.
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Overall:
Plans and implements PM&R programs for each patient through evaluation and assessment of needs, as prescribed for physician orders. Coordinates clinical activity of Acute evaluating staff, and therapy aides. Participates in all disciplinary action of employees supervised. All responsibilities and authorities will be under the guidance of the Department Director.
B. Work Performed:
1. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
2. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

5. Responsible for the orientation and training of all supervised staff and students.
6. Completes necessary evaluations of employees supervised.
7. Administers medically prescribed therapy programs and treatments.
8. Supervises activities of Acute evaluating therapists, and Therapy aides in assigned areas, and sees that all maintain professionalism.
9. Provides work assignments for personnel supervised and scheduled employees accordingly, maintains monthly employee scheduling, and is responsible for working an equal share of weekend/holiday rotations.
10. Participates in educational and training programs for self and department personnel as needed.
11. Responsible for monitoring supply level in assigned area and recommends supply needs or changes as required.
12. Works with Departmental Director to ensure expenses stay within budgetary guidelines.
13. Participates in problem identification, problem solving and performance improvement.
14. Assists department to meet regulatory standards as well as federal and state rules and regulations.
15. Attends hospital and departmental meetings as required and participates in continuing education.
16. Follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
17. Participates in rotating to necessary areas, setting will include but not limited to outpatient and acute care, to provide treatment coverage to patients where needed
18. Responsible for participating in on-call schedule per PM&R policy.
IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:
A. Implements appropriate care to the following age groups: (circle all that apply)

B. Demonstrates independence in performing daily duties, and in a timely manner.
C. Demonstrates proficiency in respective discipline techniques.
D. Develops and participates in the on-call schedule, if applicable.
E. All newly hired therapy staff receives orientation and training specific to their job duties. Ongoing training is provided to staff required to perform new job duties or to correct problem areas.
F. Interaction and communication with the supervised staff is positive and productive. Works closely with staff members, physicians, nursing, ancillary services, and family members to solve problems and improve work flow.
G. Interaction and communication with the director of PM&R is positive and productive. Works closely with the director to meet departmental goals and budgetary requirements. Brings problems/issues to the attention of the director in a timely manner.
H. Recommends staff progressive discipline as necessary to the department director. Performs diagnostic staff interviews and makes staffing recommendations to director. Performs timely staff evaluations.
I. Attends hospital and departmental meetings and ensures majority of
therapy staff attends departmental staff meetings.
V. Qualifications:
A. Education:
Level I requirements:
Current license as a Speech Language Pathologist OR Physical Therapist OR Occupational Therapist, in the State of Texas. Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
Level II requirements:
Current Texas license as an Occupational Therapist Assistant OR Physical Therapy Assistant OR Speech Language Pathologist OR Physical Therapist OR Occupational Therapist, in the State of Texas.
Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
B. Training and Experience:
2 years clinical experience, hospital experience preferred.
C. Job Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of PM&R procedures, modalities and theory. Must have time management skills and basic understanding of supervisory skills.
V. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Patient lifting and transferring.
B. Constant standing and walking.
C. Lifting and pushing of both light and heavy equipment.
