Lead Analytical Scientist Job Location: Wetherby, Yorkshire, United Kingdom Employment Type: Regular Category: Research and Development Posting Date: Jan 22, 2025 Compensation Data £38,000.00 - £45,000 per annum Mission Details Division : Sartomer Department : R+D Technical JOB TITLE Lead Analytical Chemist SITUATION IN ORGANISATION (enclose a copy of your organisation chart) Working in the Wetherby PI COE reporting directly to the Analytical Manager. The role currently has two direct reports. JOB DIMENSIONS Analytical testing of existing and new products for the Photoinitiators, Coatings and Resins division of Arkema Group. ACTIVITIES Analytical • Conducting analysis on raw materials, in-process samples (routine & non-routine) and final products • Testing samples using a range of techniques including GC, HPLC, MS, Ion Chromatography, Karl Fischer, FTIR, UV-Vis and viscosity. • Supporting the R&D synthesis lab with investigational analysis of synthetic products and formulations • Calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment, as necessary • Recording and communicating analytical results appropriately, preparing reports as needed • A high standard of IT, numeracy and data analysis skills. • Good written and verbal communication skills. • Be fully committed to following the quality system along with the safety and regulatory requirements of the business. • Knowledge of SAP would be beneficial but not essential In addition to the above the Lead Analytical Chemist would be required to: • Perform routine testing, QC and QA work for existing products. • Perform Method development on NPD products. • Perform method validation where required • Maintaining, servicing and calibrating equipment in all technical areas/labs (Analytical/Synthesis and Graphic Arts). • Control of analytical documentation: Methods, Sales specs, purchasing specs, Development specifications, Generating CoAs and SAP data handling • Arranging 3rd party testing/outsourcing work. • The Sartomer BU is part of the High Performance Materials Segment of Arkema. Sartomer is recognised as the premier brand in the area of specialty oligomers and monomers servicing the graphic arts, coatings, adhesives, as well as other assorted markets, with a concentration in UV cure applications and chemistry • The role is laboratory-based, with all the associated implications for health and safety. The jobholder must meet and interact confidently with other internal departments and customers and represent the company in a professional capacity at all times. • Be fully committed to following the quality system along with the safety and regulatory requirements of the business. • Respond in a timely manner to meet product despatch timescales. • Liaise inter-departmentally to achieve objectives. Required Profile ACCOUNTABILITIES • The role is part of the Technical Department, but you will also be expected to work closely with the company’s senior management and Technical Sales team to support the development of new products, monitor quality of existing products and provide information relating to customer enquiries. o Complete project work within agreed-upon schedules and deadlines. o Communicate results and problems or obstacles to project teams. o Generate and distribute technical reports. • Ensure the analytical department is operating correctly and efficiently at all times. Supporting the staff/team to ensure they fully understand their objectives, the company’s objectives and creating a good working environment to ensure a high right first time operation. • Ensure all equipment is serviced and maintained regularly, (including internal maintenance performed by myself and supported by the analytical team), so we are in full compliance of all quality and regulatory requirements. • Provide the documents necessary for regulatory compliance. • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external collaborators needed to achieve objectives. • Generate new ideas and provide leadership in moving projects through the development pathway. • Maintain a safe, accident-free workplace and promote safety within the department. QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • BSc in Analytical chemistry or equivalent with more 10+ years’ laboratory experience and 2+ years in management. • A practical knowledge of GC, LC, IC, HPLC-MS and GC-MS and titrations is essential. • Working and demonstrable knowledge of but not limited to Chemstation, Lab Solutions, Magic Net, MassHunter. • Analytical skills to analyse at-risk situations, take responsibility and report. • Strong background in problem solving. • Full commitment to Arkema Code of Conduct and Business Ethics and not to disclosed confidential information. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present results clearly and concisely to variety of audiences. • Excellent interpersonal skills.
