JOB DESCRIPTION:

Coordinates and leads the development and maintenance of applications. Consults with customers to understand business problems and develops technical solutions.Provides technical expertise on applications, technical tools and software. Provides technical direction to customers and support staff. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Eight years of information technology experience OR a bachelor's degree and six years of information technology experience. Positions in this classification may require a knowledge of one or more programming languages and/or a knowledge of an application and application tools.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled full time, Applications Developer/Analyst, Lead, to advance groundbreaking research into mental health conditions.

 

About the Lab:
The Language Biomarker Lab focuses on harnessing language as a powerful tool for predicting and tracking mental health conditions such as Psychosis, Depression, and Alzheimer’s Disease. Our interdisciplinary team collaborates with experts in computer science, neuroscience, psychology, and psychiatry from leading institutions nationwide. Together, we aim to develop transformative solutions for mental health challenges.

 

Position Summary:
As a Lead Applications Developer/Analyst, you will play a critical role in building and managing the lab’s bioinformatics infrastructure for multiple large-scale research projects. Your contributions will enable advanced data analysis and foster collaboration among researchers at the forefront of mental health science.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Data Engineering:

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance data processing pipelines for large datasets. Implement robust quality control (QC) measures and data provenance tracking.Develop and maintain databases and APIs for efficient data management and sharing. Support data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.Containerize and deploy software and workflows on high-performance computing platforms (e.g., clusters, cloud).

Natural Language Processing:

Develop and maintain NLP tools for language analyses of large samples of language.Collaborate with neuroscientists to analyze convergences between language analyses and neuroimaging data. Design and implement user-friendly interfaces for data exploration and analysis.

System Administration:

Support web and application server configuration and deployment.Maintain and optimize the lab's computing infrastructure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.Strong programming skills in Python and Bash. Excellent Linux/Unix system administration skills. Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git).Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of linguistics or neuroscience and neuroanatomy.Master's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).Experience with JavaScript libraries for data visualization (e.g., d3.js).Experience with web frameworks for building web applications (e.g., React, Angular).

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
