Summary:
+ The Lead BI Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing complex business intelligence (BI) solutions to support data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role requires strong expertise in business intelligence development, a deep understanding of healthcare data, and a passion for driving innovation in healthcare.
Responsibilities:
+ BI Solution Design and Development: Lead the design, development, and implementation of business intelligence solutions, including data models, reports, dashboards, and analytics tools. Utilize BI tools and technologies (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to create interactive and intuitive data visualizations that enable users to derive actionable insights from complex healthcare data sets. Define and implement best practices for data visualization, data modeling, and report development to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability of BI solutions.
+ Data Modeling and Extraction: Lead the design and development of complex data models and SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from disparate sources.
+ Performance Optimization and Scalability: Lead the optimization of performance and scalability of BI solutions, including data retrieval, query performance, and dashboard rendering, to ensure optimal user experience and responsiveness.
+ Collaboration: Build relationships with PennDnA and client stakeholders, including senior leaders. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and develop solutions that align with organizational goals. Helps set the team’s direction, contributing to team strategy and roadmap. Provide mentorship, guidance and technical expertise to junior team members.
+ Data Standards and Governance Designs standards for testing and validation of PennDnA’s BI solutions to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency of data and reports. Establish and enforce governance processes and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, security policies, and industry best practices. Defines and maintains sources of truth for critical metrics.
+ Data Security and Privacy: Implement data security measures and access controls to protect sensitive information and ensure data privacy and confidentiality. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI) throughout the BI development lifecycle.
+ Project Management: Independently manage moderately complex projects from concept to execution, coordinating with other PennDnA teams as needed.
+ Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. Own continuous improvement. Contribute to a culture of performance excellence.
+ Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
+ Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Education or Equivalent Experience:
+ Bachelor's degree. (Required)
+ 6+ years of significant experience in business intelligence development with experience in managing complex projects. Proven track record of independently leading projects from concept to execution, coordinating with cross-functional teams, as needed.
+ Master's degree. (Preferred)
Certifications:
Epic Cogito / Cogito Tools Administration, Epic Clarity Data Model, Epic Caboodle Data Model, and SlicerDicer Custom Build Badge. (Preferred)
Skills/Abilities:
+ Subject Matter Expertise – Expert in BI tools and technologies, such as SQL, SSRS, Power BI, Visual Studio, EPIC Clarity, Caboodle, or Cogito. In-depth knowledge of data visualization, dashboard development, and data modeling techniques. Strong understanding of stakeholder needs. Applies knowledge to solve problems and drive team strategy.
+ Analytical thinking – Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
+ Communication & Interpersonal Skills- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts to a diversity of stakeholders, including senior leaders. Can be trusted to represent PennDnA in meetings.

Ability to develop and maintain professional and collegial relationships with colleagues and client stakeholders, including senior leaders. Mentors junior members of the team. + Healthcare Knowledge- In-depth knowledge of data governance frameworks, regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR), and industry best practices for healthcare data management.
