Position Summary

Under supervision, the Lead Breast Imaging Specialist is responsible for the follow-up for all breast biopsy and recall procedures. Works closely with departmental management and other WCINYP Practice Managers, Chief Technologists, Nurse Manager, Customer Service Manager, Marketing Manager, and staff to optimize patient throughput and respond to patients’ and referring physicians’ needs.  This position provides information to patients in a professional, accurate, caring, and sensitive manner. Tracks and distributes pathology reports to radiologists to ensure timely reporting of biopsy results to patients. Assists with preparation of all necessary credentialing records, follow-up records and medical audit for annual mammography inspection. Enters all data into mammography reporting system. 

Job Responsibilities In collaboration with the Practice Manager, monitors the activities of the non-clinical breast biopsy and recall administrative staff. Organizes, prioritizes, and distributes work, including, but not limited to, Epic patient entry, patient message archiving and responses, record keeping and overseeing the efficient completion and documentation of Women’s Imaging patient exams. Reassigns duties as needed. Ensures a high level of customer service to patients, guests, and employees of both the medical college and hospital as measured by satisfaction surveys, customer comments and direct observation. Reviews and optimizes biopsy and recall workflow to ensure patient satisfaction. Provides oversight over FDA regulations - Unresolved Letter issues (30-day requirement) and Missing Pathology (impacts MQSA Inspection). Performs prior imaging and Women’s Imaging scheduling review for multiple Weill Cornell Imaging at NewYork-Presbyterian’s Women's Imaging practices. Provides information to patients in a professional, caring, and sensitive manner regarding what to expect before, during and after procedures. Explains procedures to Women’s Imaging patients recommended for breast biopsies and schedules the exams into Epic. Sends lay letters to all biopsy patients. Maintains current knowledge of mammography, biopsy procedures and office protocols. Provides CPT/ ICD-10 codes to patients and referring physicians' offices as needed for managed care providers. Answers basic insurance questions related to mammography. Assists with preparation of all necessary credentialing records, follow-up records and medical audit for annual inspection. Enters all data into mammography reporting system. Obtains and records all pathology results. Distributes pathology reports to radiologists for communication to referring physicians and patients. Contacts referring physicians as needed for prescriptions and to confirm receipt of patient results. Ensures monitoring and detailed reporting is made to ensure timely communication. Extrapolates data regarding breast biopsy and recall patients as requested by leadership staff. Reviews and ensures that all required medical information and paperwork is completed prior to procedures. Performs other job duties as required. Education High School Diploma Experience

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma At least 2-3 years’ experience with patient contact/clinical care.

 

Highly Desired Requirements

BA/BS Degree Knowledge of mammography procedures and breast imaging guidelines preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Candidate must possess professionalism, poise, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to deal with multiple constituencies, and sensitive and difficult patient and personnel issues. Demonstrated ability to explain sensitive topics to a variety of patient demographic groups. Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and organized.
