Lead Camp Counselor - McFetridge Sports Center
Job Title: Lead Camp Counselor – Part Time Reports To: Dance Coordinator FLSA Status: Non-exempt Summary: With passion and dedication to excellence, the McFetridge Sports Center Lead Dance Camp Counselor is responsible for leading, mentoring, and inspiring young dancers throughout the camp experience. This individual will guide campers in a variety of dance styles, foster a fun and inclusive environment, and ensure all summer camps run smoothly. The Lead Counselor will also serve as the main point of contact for fellow counselors and campers. They will organize camp schedules, materials, and communications both before and during camp. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Organize teacher and student schedules for each camp. + Research and provide any materials needed for camp activities. + Lead daily dance classes, focusing on technique, creativity, and performance. + Inspire campers with enthusiasm and passion for dance while maintaining a professional attitude. + Provide mentorship to assistant counselors and act as a role model to campers. + Ensure a positive, safe, and inclusive atmosphere for all campers. + Supervise and engage campers during all activities, including warm-ups, rehearsals, and downtime. + Maintain a positive group dynamic and mediate any conflicts between campers. + Oversee assistant counselors and help guide them in their roles. + Ensure safety standards are met and that all campers feel comfortable and supported + Maintain clear communication with the camp director and other staff regarding camper progress, behavior, and any incidents. + Provide feedback to campers and parents about individual growth, achievements, and areas for improvement. + Completes other tasks and duties as assigned Professional Requirements: + Self-motivated, with excellent communication and customer service skills + Punctual, reliable, organized, and responsible + Keeps management informed of program and facility needs + Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to + Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds + Passionate about dance and teaching + Ability to adapt teaching methods for different learning styles. + Strong organizational skills. + Problem-solving mindset and calm under pressure. + Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to work. + General mobility including but not limited to walking, kneeling, and standing for long period of times + 3-4 Experience teaching various dance classes Schedule: Camps run for half-days on weekdays 6/16 - 6/27, 7/7 - 7/18, and 8/4 - 8/15. Preparatory administration time will be needed to create and organize a schedule with other counselors, as well as gather materials, for each camp.
