Job Summary
We are seeking a Lead Chemist or Engineer with strong polymer science fundamentals interested in advancing their career within Avient’s Corporate Technology Group. The Lead Chemist or Engineer is responsible for the research and development of sustainable polymer formulations, functional additives, and composites that create value for our customers. The successful candidate will be creative and impactful within a team environment.
Essential Functions
· Conduct work in a safe, respectful and ethical manner
· Lead the development of products and technologies within existing and new markets
· Drive innovation that enriches Avient’s intellectual property portfolio
· Apply multiple theories in testing/approaches to polymer formulation
· Statistical experimental design, product testing and data analysis
· Identify raw material and other functional specifications to meet customer requirements
· Project management
· Partner with manufacturing to establish quality and testing conditions for new materials
· Present technical work to customers and various levels of management
· Conduct and troubleshoot materials and testing
· Documentation
· Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
· Ph.D. is required in a related field (materials science, chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, etc.)
· 3-5 years of related industry experience is preferred.
Additional Qualifications
· Experience with polymer chemistry, polymer rheology, thermoplastic polymer processing, including internal mixing, twin screw extrusion, injection molding, etc.
· Working knowledge of polymer structure-property relationships
· Comfortable with polymer characterization/testing techniques
