Lead Cloud Solution Architect

The Lead Cloud Solution Architect will work closely with our Businesses and Partners while drawing on years of architectural and management experience, in-depth cloud knowledge, and technical skills to ensure the deliverables are of the highest caliber and exceed client expectations. This person must have expertise to identify, develop, and implement measures that transform and evolve the enterprise with innovative cloud solutions, modernize environments, thereby changing the status quo. The architect’s contributions will improve resource
elasticity, provisioning, be broadly accessible, serve multiple businesses, and be measurable resulting in increased efficiencies and effectiveness in our digital space. The Architect must be able to lead and guide cloud services, supporting systems, cloud components, relationships between cloud components and other environments, values and attributes of cloud design, and governance of the clouds evolution.


Position Responsibilities:

Proven experience in infrastructure architecture with a focus on Azure Cloud services

Execute on implementation plans to deploy Azure infrastructure and move workloads to Azure

Excellent understanding of industry standards and best practices to meet Manulife technical, security, and business needs

Demonstrated ability to develop and execute PoCs

Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with global teams and external partners effectively

Review and manage technical requirements and business functional requirements to establish new cloud platforms

Responsible to implement automation around provisioning, improving on monitoring strategies, and maintenance and

optimization of cloud infrastructure

Develop a strategy to automate operational procedures for Azure infrastructure deployment and management, leveraging cloud vendor and third-party tools

Create and manage best practice documents and procedures to provide uniform, compliant cloud environment

Work with application owners/groups to ensure proper architecture, function, and security standards are being followed for client projects

Proficiency in cost optimization techniques and tools

Familiarity with additional cloud platforms or hybrid cloud environments

Required Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree, diploma, or equivalent demonstrate-able experience

10+ or more years of experience in application and/or infrastructure solution architecture

4 or more years of experience building cloud architecture on large-scale implementations on Microsoft Azure

Motivated self-starter who loves to troubleshoot and solve challenging problems and feels comfortable working directly with customers

Leading and coordinating the work of an integrated project team comprised of multiple technical disciplines, specifically including developers, subject matter experts, database administrators, system administrators, and system architects to implement and maintain enterprise-level information technology applications

Experience and understanding of Infrastructure as Code, Automation, and Orchestration

Experience with monitoring tools, such as Application Insights, LogAnalytics, Security Center

Experience with infrastructure automation, including configuration management (Chef) and infrastructure provisioning (Terraform)

General understanding of Azure Paas Services and Kubernetes preferred

Understanding of Azure SQL Database, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Azure DevOps preferred

Active listener striving to understand requirements, underlying needs and alternative perspectives

Experience in the large-scale technology implementations, IT Operating Model transformations, IT Cost Reduction and or IT Workforce Transformation initiatives

Strategic thinker and delivery focused

Team player, values input and contribution of team members and mentor if needed

Ability to analyze complex issues and problems and quickly recommend and implement appropriate solutions
