Job Purpose:

The Legal Counsel, based in North Africa, will ensure adequate legal and compliance services throughout the region. Reporting to the Head of Legal & Compliance, MEA, the Legal Counsel will support management in achieving business objectives and managing legal and compliance risks.

 

Basic Education

 

 

Graduate Degree in Law 

Preferred Education

 

 

LLM or other post graduate legal or business degree / specialization

Basic Experience/Requirements

 

 

 

7 - 12 years of experience Excellent English and French drafting and communication skills and Arabic Experience working in a multinational or regional company legal department Excellent academic record and working references/credentials Experience in ethics and compliance 

Preferred Experience/Requirements

 

 

Experience in B2B commercial legal support (RFPs, Public tendering, contract negotiations) Work experience in North Africa  Familiar with cross-border legal services in major NA countries Experience in the Telecom and ICT industry Very strong individual contributor  Strong leadership and business relationship skills 

Job Purpose:

 Lead legal and transactional support for business in major Network Infrastructure (NI) customer accounts and countries in North Africa Provide legal advice on a wide range of deals and agreements with customers, resellers, and other business partners Provide advice on corporate matters, potential court litigations, and arbitration actions, involving the company's legal entities in North Africa Coordinate with all functions to identify, develop, and implement improvements in line with Nokia standards, processes, and policies Provide legal training and education to business colleagues on Nokia policies, commercial law, compliance, and other relevant legal matters for the sub-region and company Run multiple legal risk management initiatives in the sub-region to instill a positive, world-class legal compliance culture and full adherence to internal and external governance requirements

Key Deliverables: 

Unquestionable level of integrity with the ability to work as an enabler to the business in line with company policy and procedures Provide legal guidance and support for Nokia’s business activities and work with the Middle East and Africa L&C team to support Nokia’s other local and regional NI businesses Review, draft, and negotiate contracts with third parties Proactively manage legal risks arising from complex business transactions Support ethics and compliance initiatives Keep the Sales Teams informed about changes in legislation and relevant legal topics affecting the business Provide legal guidance in tenders alongside the contract management and other functions Provide corporate support to Nokia’s legal entities in North Africa 

Key Responsibilities/Primary Functions: 

Act as Legal & Compliance’s first point of contact for dedicated countries and customer accounts in North Africa Perform proactive risk assessments to identify business processes in the country which may represent a risk for the company, with an emphasis on financial, business controls, and efficient business processes Responsible for reporting and escalating risks, legal issues, and best practices to the Head of L&C for the MEA Region Coordinate with all functions to identify, develop, and implement improvements in response to legal requirements, legislative changes, and company policy requirements Initiate a communication program that ensures a clear understanding of legal compliance standards required for individuals conducting high-risk activities in the business Act as a source of expert knowledge of all legal, ethics, and compliance programs and support the development of an effective and pragmatic compliance culture Assess the level of compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards across the organization, as well as the adequacy of internal controls within business, financial processes, and operations
