Overview Job Duties Provides excellent customer service and greets patients entering the department/practice. A multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direction of the appropriate manager (Director, Ambulatory Administrator, or Office Manager), supervises and coordinates the day-to-day clinic activities and personnel issues for the front and/or back office staff located in the ambulatory setting. Acts as a liaison with staff, departments/practices, and patients. The Clinical Assistant will perform diagnostic testing under the supervision of the Physician/Extender. Responsibilities Essential Functions • Assist with patient examination, performs venipuncture for lab draws, take patient vital signs and performs medication reconciliation. Observe and report patients’ signs or symptoms. Administers medication as directed by and under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. • Participates as an active care team member in the coordination of patient care and Provides a standard of excellent as it relates to customer service for patients, staff members, and other customers • Implements and monitors managed care referral process to ensure accurate and consistent appointment process, results maintenance and authorizations for specialty appointments. The CA will be trained in all aspects of Stress testing for low risk patients, this includes setting patient up for stress testing, monitoring patient while on treadmill, documenting HR and Blood Pressure while on treadmill, and notifying Physician/Extender of any concerns during stress testing. Monitoring patient after stress testing. All under the direct supervision of the Physician/Extender who is present in the clinic/office while stress testing being performed. • Institutes and maintains a high level of customer service in the front, back, and clinical office areas in regards to patient, physician and inter-departmental contact made in person or by telephone. • Receives and directs messages, (electronic, in-person, and telephone calls) to the appropriate personnel. Makes contacts to other departments, physicians, patients, and other outside organizations as necessary for the departmental/practice operations. • Maintains patient scheduling functions, and sets patient appointments through established guidelines. • Interviews and completes the registration process for patients utilizing the specific service. • Performs general office duties and ensure front desk duties (Pre/registration, scheduling, insurance verification, etc) are completed and the Manager is aware • With guidance from the immediate manager, assists with personnel and payroll functions for assigned personnel including, but not limited to participating in the hiring process, training process, and continuous coaching and feedback for the staff in relation to their performance. • Ensures appropriate budgetary standards are implemented and maintained for labor and supply monitoring for front, back, and clinical offices. • Ensures compliance of regulatory and organizational policies and procedures, and recommends changes in the department policies and procedures as identified. Qualifications Experience Requirements 1 year Medical Assistant preferred 2 years 2-4 years Clerical/customer service experience -ideally in a health care related industry preferred 1 year third party payors and computer experience for in putting data and reviewing patient demographic material preferred Education Requirements High School Diploma or GED required Bachelors Degree in medicine or other fields, with plans for a career in dental, medicine, advanced medical practice, pharmacy, chiropractor, physical and occupational therapy or other allied health fields. preferred Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred at time of hire UFJPI is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Drug Free Workplace
