Lead Data Center Migration Specialist

Job Overview:

The Data Center Migration Specialist is responsible for planning, executing, and managing the relocation of data centers / colocations assets, from one location to another. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise in data center infrastructure and experience in managing complex migration projects to minimize downtime and ensure data integrity. This role is critical in ensuring the successful migration of data centers, supporting business continuity, and enhancing the overall IT infrastructure of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Management:

Develop comprehensive migration strategies and plans, including scope, timelines, resources, risk assessments, budget, and contingency plans.Coordinate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, goals, and deliverables.

Technical Expertise:

Assess current data center infrastructure and identify requirements for the new environment.Develop and implement best practices for data center migration, including data replication, backup, and restoration processes.Ensure compliance with industry standards and security protocols during the migration process.

Execution and Implementation:

Oversee the physical migration of data center assets.Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers for asset procurement, installation, and configuration.Conduct testing and validation to ensure system functionality and data integrity post-migration.

Communication and Collaboration:

Collaborating with various stakeholders, including IT teams, management, and third-party vendors, to ensure alignment and support throughout the migration process.Train and support staff on new systems and processes as required.

Post-Migration:

Conduct post-migration review to assess the success of the migration, identify areas for improvement, and document any lessons learned for future migrations.

Minimum Requirement: Degree or equivalent and typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience. Less years required if has relevant Master’s or Doctorate qualifications

Critical Skills :

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.Proven experience in data center migrationStrong technical knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and virtualization.Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Preferred Skills :

Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.

Working Conditions:

May require occasional travel to data center sites.Ability to work outside regular business hours during migration phases to minimize disruption to business operations.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$133,600 - $222,600
