Lead Data Engineer
Drive the execution of large-scale greenfield/technology transformations using modern data engineering technologies and practices aligned to the Barclays overall technology strategyLead the implementation of robust data model, processing and storage in applications and infrastructure.Define and deliver enterprise-level data architecture and cloud technologies (both on-prem and off-prem), creating robust and scalable solutions to meet the Wholesale Credit Risk business and technology outcomesUtilize Spark, Python, Airflow, lineage tools (Openlineage/Alation) and other related data processing technologiesDrive the engineering team to deliver efficient outcomes leveraging Scaled AgilePartner with colleagues across Wholesale Credit Risk, including engineering leads of other release trains, the Wholesale Credit Risk Architecture lead, and the Wholesale Credit Risk CIO.Collaborate with GFED (Group Functions and Enterprise Data Technology) architecture and engineering leads.Deliver future state data capabilities for UCRS (Unified Credit Ratings System) as part of the Mersey programme, a business-critical initiative driving significant cost, efficiency, and control improvements within Wholesale Credit Risk.Work alongside the team in Glasgow to deliver on Mersey commitments and key regulatory programmes (Internal Ratings Based Models and Basel 4).Act as the local IT Director and site lead for the Wholesale Credit Risk Technology team in Glasgow (around 50 FTE), involving line management, mentorship, and leading the overall colleague agenda for Glasgow.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
