The Lead Radiology Technologist position is responsible for performing general imaging procedures in at least one of the following: diagnostic, interventional, CT, MR, nuclear medicine, or ultrasound. This individual will be a procedure specialist (site visits, new equipment evaluations) as it relates to this individual's area of expertise. S/He leads the team of technologists in assigned modality.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Performs prescribed invasive/interventional procedures if applicable in accordance with established policies. May be caring for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

* Produces quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.

* Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.

* Collaborates with physicians and other health care professionals.

* Performs sterile technique in procedural tasks and able to perform as a scrub tech.


Leadership
* Demonstrates leadership to address the needs of patients, families and the needs of the Imaging Staff.

* Responsible for the day to day operations of the assigned modality.

* Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.

* Responsible for maintaining the work schedule, work flows and staff time off for area.

* Participates in hiring, evaluations, disciplinary actions, and problem solving; Is the first level in employee grievance procedure.


Education
* Keeps updated on the knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, radiation physics and radiographic equipment.

* Exhibits knowledge of radiation safety, general safety, and infection control procedures as well as quality assurance pocess.

* Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.


Compliance/Safety
* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost effective manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.

* Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors while adhering to safety policies.

* Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to radiology practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

Qualifications

Education
Applied Associates of Science degree in Radiological Technology - Required

 

Bachelor's of Radiology or Science - Preferred


Certification & Licensures
Lead Technologist 1:
Arizona Department of Health Rad Tech license
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their department leader


Lead Technologist 2:
Current registry Rad Tech and CT or Mammo Technologists- Required
MRTBE CT or MRTBE Mammography- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.

 

Lead Technologist 3:
Current registry in MRI, ARRT and/or Interventional Radiology ARRT- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.

 

Lead Technologist 4:
ARDMS for Ultrasound- Required
CNMT for Nuclear Medicine- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.


Lead Ultrasound Technologist:
RVT- Preferred
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.


Experience
Lead Technologist 1:
One year experience in Diagnostic Radiology - Preferred


Lead Technologist 2:
One year experience in Diagnostic Radiology and/or a special modality; CT, Mammography- Preferred

 

Lead Technologist 3:
Five years competency as a general radiographer or six months as a certified specialist- Preferred

 

Lead Technologist 4:
Three year's experience for CNMT- Preferred

 

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
