The role

As a Lead Design Engineer you will provide full design & advice on Electronics/Tools & expand capabilities of the team. You'll be overseeing engineering design tasks for client and company requirements in support of Fugro operations.

The ideal candidate will design new or modified products and equipment, ensuring the company provides high-quality design engineering services to maintain its leading industry role. Reporting directly to the Design Engineering Team Lead, this role involves collaborating with other discipline engineers, project managers, and the draughting team to design, develop, and deliver technical solutions globally.

In this role, the you will be responsible for creating detailed designs of ROV intervention tooling and project-specific equipment, ensuring compliance with departmental procedures and applicable codes and standards. This includes performing engineering design verification and validation through rigorous analysis, calculations, and the development of associated design documentation such as test procedures and manuals. You will also take ownership of and adhere to the engineering design process for assigned projects, ensuring all activities are carried out with the highest regard for health and safety and environmental protection.

The Lead Design Engineer will provide technical support and liaise with workshop, procurement, and operational teams to ensure smooth project delivery. They will also interact with clients to understand their needs and provide engineering solutions that meet their requirements. The role involves contributing to commercial activities, such as providing input to tenders by reviewing scopes of work, creating concept designs, and preparing cost, time, and resource estimates.

Who we’re looking for:

We are seeking a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, significant technical experience, and foundation-level management experience. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the Electronic Engineering domain, with a deep understanding of the systems and technologies used at Fugro in one or more service lines.

The role involves leading the design, development, and maintenance of hardware and software systems, including advanced troubleshooting of operational systems. Proficiency in designing electric equipment, with a focus on applying various engineering analysis techniques and calculations, is essential. Basic programming experience is also beneficial.

Candidates with experience in robotics, automation, manufacturing, heavy industries, or the subsea industry are highly desirable. An electro-mechanical background with an emphasis on design is considered advantageous.

Skills that would benefit this position include automation programming (robotics), software hardware design (Node-Red, Raspberry-Pi, GUI, proprietary software), electronic design, general electrical knowledge for component choice and electrical system design, and understanding of communication protocols such as RS-485.

The ideal candidate must prioritize health and safety, environmental protection, and adherence to engineering design processes. They will provide technical support, liaise with clients and suppliers, and contribute to tenders with concept designs and cost estimates. Additionally, the candidate should have advanced knowledge of engineering disciplines related to the subsea or a related industry and demonstrate a commitment to operational excellence.

n this role, you will deliver differentiation through technology in our products and service delivery. You will provide conceptual input in technical and architectural discussions, understand the business, and know how the products Fugro builds provide value for clients, offering active input in business value discussions.

You will actively drive knowledge exchange within the organization, determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions, and assure higher-level efficiency and operational readiness of selected product components.

You will document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, and charts, and assure successful product, service, and technology deployment. You will provide information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues.

Additionally, you will drive inter-team knowledge sharing, skills improvement, and technical alignment within your region by actively collaborating with other Senior Engineers on architectural designs and reviews. You will consistently adopt and apply industry best practices and support and develop less experienced engineers by providing advice, coaching, mentorship, and educational opportunities.
