National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer, Electrical Planning and Design, This role is Hybrid in MA.

Job Purpose

National Grid is seeking a talented Lead Electrical Engineer within its Intelligent Substation Design and Engineering Standards. This engineer will work as part of an experienced and innovative team to review, update, and develop substation standards needed to support substation capital projects including distribution and transmission interconnections projects, and emerging technologies. Standards support new and existing distribution and transmission substations throughout National Grids US territory which vary in voltage from 4160V to 345kV.  This position will also be involved in training on the standards, as part of talent development of substation engineers. 
 

Key Accountabilities Prepare and contribute to the development, technical content and implementation of National Grid’s Substation Engineering and Design philosophy, standards, guidelines and procedures; identify risks and put in place actions to ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements. Provide a high level of customer service and ensure that design to value is consistently   incorporated through standardization.  Engage various Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in technical discussions to facilitate the development of standards. Attend and participate in conferences and seminars in relation to new technologies, and industry standards to ensure the substation standards are up to date on technology, fostering future adaptation and expansion. Resolve technical issues that may arise in updating and development of standards.  Work in a matrixed team environment and promote team effectiveness by providing technical guidance and coaching, communicating expectations to the team and delegating assignments. Ability to prioritize work and be a team member on multiple projects at one time under budget and time constraints. Ability to perform complex calculations and studies (grounding, AC & DC system sizing, lightning protection, lighting, rigid bus design, etc.) to support substation standards design basis. Ability to develop estimates and economic analysis to support substation standards design basis. Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of technical problems, investigative findings, and engineering recommendations. Strong presentation skills required to conduct technical training, and present to upper management.  Capable of writing equipment specifications and technical reports. Ability to apply technical expertise to complex issues. Mentor and train junior engineers and other personnel. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school with knowledge of power systems. Professional Engineering License or Master’s Degree desirable. Minimum 6 years’ experience (10 years preferred) in an engineering field related to power systems, substation engineering, and / or operations and maintenance. Proficient with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Familiarity with SAP, CDEGS, Bentley Microstation, AUTO-CAD, Microsoft Project, Primavera, Tableau, Power Plan, Cascade and/or other similar software tools. Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, and others in a positive, team building manner. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Knowledge of engineering economics, civil engineering, environmental, purchasing and legal regulations. Good working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes including put not limited to substation construction and maintenance practices, electric utility practices, substation materials and equipment, grounding and lightning study analysis, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70, ASTM, NEC, NESC, and NE Building Code Ability to manage multiple tasks. Ability to physically navigate in and around an electrical substation. Valid driver's license required with acceptable driving record that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver Policy. More Information

Salary - $145,000 - $170,000
