Lead Engineer – Advanced Fuels
Job Description SummaryThe Lead Engineer works within the Gen IV Advanced Design & Development group of the GE Hitachi Engineering organization. The AD&D team supports the development of advanced nuclear applications through scope ownership of early phase projects and delivering high caliber analysis of complex, first-of-a-kind (FOAK) technologies. AD&D is an interdisciplinary group of problem-solvers with high aptitude and flexibility. This role provides engineering support and technical leadership over advanced reactor fuel development activities. As such, applicants should possess both subject matter expertise as well as project management proficiency.

Job Description

The applicant should possess extensive knowledge of nuclear fuel design, fabrication, and licensing. Competitive candidates will have prior experience in new fuel development and the capacity to provide both technical oversite and program development. The engineer/scientist will perform the following tasks:

Essential Responsibilities:

Provide technical oversite of all stages of advanced fuel process development including design, qualification, and procurement.Develop design and process requirements that incorporate both technical and business needs.Perform trade-off analyses to specify and procure equipment, select processes, and inform testing.Facilitate technical reviews, lead interdisciplinary work, manage handoffs, and provide functional oversite of engineering endeavors.Represent GEH with customers, regulators, and project partners while acting as the technical point of contact for advanced fuel development.Maintain work schedules and resources and provide status updates that accurately summarize all design and analysis activities involved in fuel fabrication process development.Monitor documentation for compliance with all quality, regulatory, and customer requirements.Be accountable for fabrication milestones quality, troubleshooting, and schedule adherence.

Required Qualifications:

Advanced degree in nuclear engineering or closely-related field.Minimum of 6 years of combined engineering experience with an emphasis on fuel design, licensing, or program developmentAt least 2 years prior nuclear industry experience exhibiting technical leadership.

Desired Characteristics :

PhD in nuclear engineering or related field.Prior experience in advanced reactor fuel development, qualification, and fabrication.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Demonstrable project management abilities from program management or project engineering.Previous experience as a liaison with external entities including customers, vendors, and regulators.
