The Lead Engineer – FPGA Design role is a pivotal role at the forefront of technology development and innovation within our engineering team. This position demands leadership in steering program planning, execution, and the enhancement of processes across multiple products or business segments. Leveraging deep experience and expertise, the Lead Engineer will craft design solutions for challenging project issues, spearhead project plans for both individual and team efforts, and influence both immediate and long-term organizational objectives.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids and necessitates a presence in the office for 2-3 days each week. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

Engage in the design lifecycle of FPGA across various platforms including Xilinx, Microsemi, and others, ensuring tasks are performed efficiently and effectively.

Innovate in the field of FPGA, ASIC, and CPLD device design for avionics hardware applications, aiming for patentable advancements.

Execute VHDL designs utilizing industry-standard tools for design and simulation.

Oversee the development and management of requirements in DOORs, alongside preparing DO-254 certification artifacts.

Formulate and implement project plans for custom logic development, focusing on scheduling and cost management.

Generate bids, proposals, and define intricate architectures within your product domain.

Apply judgment and expertise to resolve moderately complex hardware design, manufacturing, or technology issues.

Analyze data to support decision-making, drawing on both internal and limited external sources.

Serve as a mentor for less experienced colleagues and potentially lead projects with moderate risks and resources.

Communicate complex or sensitive information effectively, striving for consensus and employing persuasion skills within your expertise area.

Manage documentation of technical data in accordance with engineering policies and procedures for all assigned projects and tasks.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college in Electrical or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of professional experiences in design.

Desired Characteristics:

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science Engineering.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in computing product development, specifically with cSoC device architectures.

Proficiency in high-speed data interfaces and computing applications (e.g., PCIe, AXI bus, SERDES, DMA).

Familiarity with avionics interfaces and protocols (e.g., MIL-STD-1553, A429, A664, TSN).

Skilled in using Intel Quartus, Lattice Diamond, Microsemi Libero, and Xilinx Vivado.

Proficient in VHDL and UVM Test Benches.

Experience with Mentor Graphics Expedition Enterprise and Hyperlynx PI/SI.

Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Knowledge and experience in Mil/Aero/avionics, DO-254, and Civil FFA Certification.

Demonstrated ability to dissect complex problems and apply critical thinking.
