Lead Estimator - Energy Construction
**Requisition ID:** 175632 **Job Level:** Senior Level **Home District/Group:** Kiewit Energy Canada District **Department:** Estimating **Market:** OGC **Employment Type:** Full Time **Position Overview** As Lead Estimator, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting RFP and contractual documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for various large, complex projects. You will be responsible for the overall execution of project estimates which includes providing operational direction and oversight to the discipline estimators. Additional responsibilities include developing assumptions based on experience when detailed plans are not provided or available and performing preliminary front end estimates based on conceptual level designs. Kiewit’s project work is large, complex and varied, and at times never been done before, requiring the need to think ‘outside of the box’. The estimating group works as a team, and with management present during the process from beginning to end. Our estimating practices are intensely rigorous and detailed-oriented, incorporating powerful systems. **District Overview** Kiewit Energy Canada is a major industrial contractor that specializes a wide range of engineering, procurement and construction services to the oil, gas, chemical, ethanol and related process industries. Our projects involve construction of oil sands processing facilities, including steam-assisted gravity drainage facilities, refinery expansions, gas plant expansions, co-generation facilities, major mine developments and pipe spool fabrication. **Location** Our head office is located in Calgary, AB. The successful candidate will be able to work in the office full-time. This means your Kiewit adventure is custom-designed to meet our shared needs. **Responsibilities** + Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs. + Supervise estimators in the preparation estimates, review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or JV partners to determine completeness of data used, procedures, and aid in resolving differences in bid items. + Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan and schedule for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate. + Prepare pursuit win strategy in conjunction with Business Development and Senior Operations Staff. + Develop pursuit procurement strategy. + Reviews all bid and contract documents with the support home office legal department opinions. + Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present. + Utilize estimating techniques and procedures to conduct investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures. + Address any major technical problems encountered during bid preparation. + Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry. + Prepare special studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions. + Consult with owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc. **Qualifications** + Undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering or Construction-related technology, or extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above. + The ideal candidate has 7 to 10 years of related experience in estimation on energy construction projects. + Ideally build and self-perform construction experience + Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. + Experience with, and strong aptitude for, various estimating software systems. + Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint). + Functional knowledge of English (written and verbal) is required. \#LI-GH **Other Requirements:** • Regular, reliable attendance • Work productively and meet deadlines timely • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment • Perform work safely and effectively.
