Job Description SummaryThe Lead Field Service Engineer - Drives under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of engineering tasks and ensures proper installation, service and commissioning of products and services. Provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects and provides maintenance, breakdown emergency support and remote troubleshooting.

Roles and Responsibilities

Perform troubleshooting activities at site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implements corrective actionsDevelop requisite documentation to execute work e.g. commissioning procedures, maintenance procedures daily logs etc.Perform installation and commissioning activities at customer site locationsBe capable of working unsupervised and leading small teamsExecute on site project management and technical leader duties to resolve customer issues and provide customer satisfactionUnder the direction of a senior engineer performs a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE drive systemsDevelop presentations and provides training and instruction to customers on drive operationsCoordinate additional opportunities to serve the customer with the customer service team, parts, other FSE’s, repair services, sales, and product engineering teamsAdvise the customer of recommended upgrades, parts, and service opportunities to improve customer productivity and sell GE parts and servicesCoordinate maintenance activities for the customer and planning for inspectionsProvide support to engineering teams working on customer CMU’s projectsProvide support the bidding process for the customer CMU’s projectsIdentify new opportunities & development of effective offerings to improve in-service equipment reliability / availabilityPromote sales of maintenance servicesPerform other related engineering tasks to facilitate proper commissioning and customer satisfactionProvide on call support in response to customer calls for serviceEnsure appropriate response and service is provided to customerComplete timely service reports and other administrative requirementsSupport business growth opportunities and marketing campaignsOther duties may be assigned by management to meet business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum 5 additional years of related industry experience)Minimum 5 years of field service and/or commissioning experience

Eligibility Requirements:

Canadian Citizen with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of National Defense projects.Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.Must be physically fit to be able to board vessels offshore. Must be able to pass a HUET and offshore survival course which includes activities in a swimming pool. Ability and willingness to travel 85% of the time​ on short noticeThe work environment at onsite locations is of a construction type setting.  Whilst performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of trips, slips and falls.  The noise level on-site or on-board ships can be excessive, personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required. 

Desired Characteristics:

Minimum of 3 years of experience with GE Drive systems {With 2 years practicable working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive system (Including: MV7000, SD7000, MV3000)Minimum of 2 years practicable working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive / system controller (Including PEC, PECe, CDC)Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments, which require considerable engineering skill and creative ability and independent judgmentPossess detailed knowledge, competence and expertise with installation and commissioning tasks and servicesStrong computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office applicationsAbility to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practicesBackground in a customer facing position, within a Service environmentAbility to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices.Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills essential.Ability to prioritize workload and organize work activities in order to meet business needs and department goals.Perform work on-board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in shipyards or offshore.Extended hours / overtime maybe required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
