Lead Hematology Technician

PURPOSE OF JOB: 

The Hematology Lead assists in the supervision of day-to-day activities within the laboratory unit/group/area/department, performing laboratory analyses and tests to diagnose various pet and other animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment. Assists in supervising staff, training personnel and evaluating results. Contributes to the development of operating policies and procedures.

Shift: 1am - 9am, Monday - Saturday with a day off.

Pay rate: 27.23

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in the supervision of department staff, monitoring activities and evaluating performance.  Provides coaching and guidance to staff and oversees staff training and development.  Provides input to department policies and procedures.Assists in leading work activities of the lab unit/group/area/department, planning and organizing work, providing for adequate staffing and resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained.Contributes to maintenance of department diagnostic equipment and other technical resources. Perform routine testing which includes reading Avian CBC slides at a minimum rate of 12 per hour, manual CBC slides at a rate of 25 slides per hour and manual platelet slides at a rate of 10 slides per hour.Handles rechecks and verifications within department.Conduct random audits and evaluation of slides.Resolve pending listReports and technical QA/QC problems to the Supervisor.Ensure that monthly Tech and Aide audits are performed and documented.Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.Maintain all equipment including hoods, centrifuges, etc.Meet daily TAT production requirements.Perform duties of the supervisor in their absence.Reads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.  Maintains clean and organized work area.  Restocks supplies as needed.May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.We share a collaborative obligation to ensure that we conduct ourselves in the utmost ethical manner and that we hold each other accountable to the values and standards of the organization.  Every employee has the responsibility to ask questions, seek guidance, and report concerns and/or violations of company policy or ethical standards. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required, preferably in Science-related field.
