Lead Highway Maintenance Technician

Who You Are:

Versar Global Solutions is seeking a Lead Highway Maintenance Technician to fill a full-time role. The position is responsible for performing general maintenance and lead other highway technicians of the highway maintenance project assigned. 

What You’ll Do:

Oversees work of assigned maintenance team employees.Addresses minor discipline problems with team members; refers more serious cases to roadway maintenance.Assists with the planning and preparation of on-boarding for new maintenance team members.Works and communicates with clients and customers providing polite, quality professional service.Displays a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail and commitment and ensures same from maintenance team.Clearly communicates goals and deadlines with team and ensures expectations are met or exceeded.Assists team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments. Cleans and grades ditches, drainage structures, highway road shoulders, slopes.Repair work including, but not limited to, repair of fences, sign repair, litter debris removal, and other highway maintenance activities to include emergency responseUse all equipment safely.Completes landscape maintenance duties, such a mowing, chemical and fertilizer application, weed control, spring clean-up, fall clean-up, trimming and pruning.Operates a variety of mechanical equipment, including but not limited to, bed edger, commercial mowers (ztr’s and possible bush hog), blowers, dump trailers, chain saw, and line trimmers.Care for equipment and notifies management of needed repairs.Performs other duties as required

What You’ll Bring:

18+ years of age Some working knowledge of roadway or highway operations and build/maintenance practicesMust be able to effectively communicate with managers and coworkers in EnglishPossess and maintain a valid Driver’s License Reliable transportation to and from Company officeAbility to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time Communicates effectively orally and in writing Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to handle multiple projects, daily activities, and meet timelines. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriateAbility to identify issues and to determine repairs that are needed.Willingness to work multiple shifts and varying hours, including nice, weekends, and overtime Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions Ability to work along local roadways, interstates, and or/highways with commuter traffic passing by at varying rates of speed Ability to adhere to on-call rotation scheduling requirements Obtain MOT certificate (coursework and certification paid for by LBS) Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen Comply with Company Drug and Alcohol policy Must be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date

Preferred Qualifications

Possess a working knowledge of standard horticultural practices, including but not limited to mowing, weed eating, corrective pruning, and fertilization. CDL A or B MOT Certified Agricultural Pesticide Applicator’s License Ability to drive manual transmission Experience operating heavy equipment 5+ years of experience working in roadway operations, construction, utilities, or landscaping 

Location Requirements

The position will primarily work onsite in Springfield, VA.

Compensation 

Expected Salary: $25 - $27 per hour
